The Infrastructure and Operations team within our IT & Digital Directorate is expanding We are hiring a Network and Security Engineer to become part of our collaborative culture, diverse teams, and well-connected community, on a fixed term contract for 2 years. As the Network & Security Engineer, you will be responsible for the deployment and management of a robust identity and access management solution using Cisco Identity Service Engine (ISE) to our University's network infrastructure to secure the academic and administrative functions of the institution. Your primary focus will be to ensure secure network access control, identity management, and policy enforcement. Based within the Infrastructure and Operations Department, and specifically working on the Network Access Control project team, you will be a highly skilled and motivated Network and Security Engineer with experience of managing, maintaining, and securing complex LAN, WAN, Wireless and Firewall infrastructure. Key Responsibilities Deploy, and maintain the university's network infrastructure, including wired and wireless networks, across multiple campuses and remote locations. Configure and maintain Cisco ISE servers and appliances. Configure, monitor, and optimize network equipment such as routers, switches, firewalls, and access points to ensure high performance, reliability, and security. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess network requirements and implement solutions to meet the university's evolving needs. Implement and manage network security measures, including intrusion detection and prevention systems, VPNs, and access control policies, to protect against cyber threats and unauthorized access. Conduct regular security assessments and audits to identify vulnerabilities and develop strategies for remediation. Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to end-users and IT staff as needed. Stay current with industry trends and best practices in network engineering and cybersecurity. Key Skills & Experience Cisco ISE: Knowledge of Cisco ISE architecture, installation, and configuration. Cisco DNAC / Catalyst Centre: Knowledge of Cisco DNAC / Catalyst Centre configuration and management. Demonstrable experience in network engineering and security roles Networking: understanding of networking protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP), VLANs, and Layer 2/3 switching. Protocols: Proficiency in 802.1X, RADIUS, and TACACS. Network Security: Familiarity with firewalls, VPNs, and endpoint protection systems. Cisco Routers and Switches; Proficiency in configuring and managing network equipment from vendors Cisco and Palo Alto Networks. Palo Alto: preferred, knowledge and hands-on experience with Palo Alto Networks' firewall platforms, including PAN-OS, Panorama, and associated hardware appliances. Assurance: preferred, knowledge and hands-on experience Solarwinds, Wireshark, Cisco Thousandeyes, Cisco Catalyst Centre. Problem-solving capabilities for diagnosing network and security issues with the ability to analyse network logs and identify access-related anomalies.
