Neurosciences Clinical Governance & Medicines Management - Pharmacist
Job overview
We are looking for a dynamic and forward-thinking pharmacist with experience in medicines management/clinical governance to join our senior pharmacy team. You will work as part of the neurosciences pharmacy team to provide pharmacy services to The Walton Centre, a specialist Trust that provides tertiary neurology, neurosurgery, spinal, and pain management services.
This post will be based within WCFT but will work closely with colleagues in other Trusts to standardise services relating to medicines management and to maximise quality, safety, productivity, and efficiency.
This includes developing/updating policies, clinical guidelines, and involvement in quality improvement projects related to medicines within the Trust.
The role includes representing WCFT at various area prescribing group subgroups and participation in the Walton Centre Drugs and Therapeutics Committee.
You will also participate in the well-established pharmacist prescribing service for patients newly admitted on the morning of their elective neurosurgery.
Main duties of the job
1. Assist the WCFT Lead Clinical Pharmacist in developing pharmacy services and medicines management within The Walton Centre.
2. Lead and manage the neurosciences pharmacy team.
3. Act as a primary point of contact for senior staff and departments regarding medicines-related issues.
4. Review compliance with CQC and other national standards.
5. Provide medicines-related training for other Trust staff.
6. Lead in the delivery and development of pharmacy services to the neuroscience’s directorates.
7. Identify the clinical and economic impact of medicines use, develop clinical guidelines, monitor drug expenditure, and support the area to meet clinical and financial targets.
Person specification
Qualifications
* MPharm or equivalent
* Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council
* Post-graduate clinical qualification to Diploma level
* Pharmacist Independent Prescriber qualification or within 3 months of registering
* Postgraduate research qualification to PhD level
* Leadership training
* MRPharmS
Knowledge
* Good awareness of the wider pharmacy & hospital contexts
* Good understanding of legal aspects of medicines management
* Good understanding of Primary/Secondary Care interface issues
* Significant awareness and involvement in recruitment & retention activities
Skills
* Excellent interpersonal skills
* Good leadership skills & ability to positively promote change
* Ability to interpret research and developments in clinical pharmacy practice
* High degree of computer literacy including analytical tools

Experience
* Medicines governance and optimisation experience
* Regular liaison with other senior hospital staff

* Clinical pharmacy experience in a wide range of medical specialties
* Research experience including published work in national and/or international pharmacy journals
* Acute Teaching Trust/Tertiary Referral Centre experience
* Delivery of aseptics, purchasing, dispensary, clinical pharmacy & MI services
* Experience working in a neurosciences setting
