Founded in 2016, MiAlgae applies leading advances in science and technology to improve food security and reduce the impact of humanity on the planet. The role: Please note: This role operates on an early/late shift basis (Monday - Friday) Reporting directly to the Quality Control Lab Supervisor, you will work as a key part of the Quality team, contributing towards the successful commercialisation of the company’s omega-3 product and the development of future products. Your primary responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, microbiological and analytical testing of all process/product samples, and coordinating external testing shipments, as well as conforming to quality control measures, maintaining records, and safety procedures. Key Responsibilities: Coordinate QC-related activities across different sites and provide regular updates to QC Lab Supervisor/Quality Manager. Carry out Quality Control (QC) activities, including microbiological testing, product characterisation testing, coordination of external quality testing, facility cleaning, equipment set-up, and operation. Conduct routine and non-routine analyses of samples for in-process, final product, stability, and environmental monitoring. Maintain all QC systems, databases, logs, support the generation of QC trend data, and data adhering to good documentation practices Contribute to the development and improvement of quality control procedures, carrying out administrative duties including, COSHH forms, and risk assessments. Report and provide support on non-conformance investigations. Carrying out and arranging routine equipment maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment following approved methods and procedures on assigned pieces of equipment. Maintain lab stock levels and support routine lab tasks, working to SOPs as required, for example preparing buffers, media, plates and flasks, cell counting etc. Perform stability studies on the developed formulations and test the formulation chemical stability. Perform technical review of assays, data tables, and study protocols/reports for evaluation, method validation Stay updated on industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory requirements related to quality control and implement best practices as appropriate. Actively participate in cross-departmental communications to implement improvement. Problem-solving and mentoring other analysts. Writing project reports on data analysis. Experience and Skills: Proficient in laboratory techniques and equipment, gained through work experience in an industrial setting, ideally within a regulated environment. Proficient in working within health and safety procedures and adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to understand and address scientific and engineering challenges. Excellent record-keeping and data-recording skills. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely within a team environment. Exceptional time management skills. The Candidate: We seek driven individuals with a flexible approach to work & keen to make their mark within a rapidly growing award-winning biotechnology company. The ideal candidate will be educated to BSc or master’s degree level in microbiology, with at least a couple of years of experience in the aseptic handling of microbial cultures within a regulated environment. Relevant industrial experience in a similar industry such as brewing and distilling, dairy processing, pharmaceuticals, or chemical manufacturing would be of considerable interest. A keen eye for detail and the ability to understand and write technical reports/documents to aid in the process development and in conducting investigations. You will be an effective communicator who can work independently and effectively within a team. You will have a positive ‘can do’ approach and a keen interest in the use of biotechnology for the benefit of the environment.
