Job Title: Learning Support Assistant

Work Hours: 8:45 am – 4:15 pm
About the Role: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to join our team at a vibrant college located in Manchester. As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a crucial role in providing academic and emotional support to students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), particularly those with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide tailored learning support to individual students or small groups within the secondary or further education setting.
2. Work closely with teachers to identify student needs and monitor progress.
3. Help to implement individual Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP) and student support strategies.
4. Support students with SEMH by providing a safe and supportive environment, encouraging engagement, and promoting self-esteem.
5. Assist in the development of students’ academic, social and independent learning skills.
6. Prepare learning materials and adapt resources to suit individual learning needs.
7. Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and families when appropriate.
8. Help to maintain a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.
9. Provide feedback on student achievements and contribute to record-keeping.
Key Requirements:
1. Must possess a Child and Adult DBS on the update service.
2. Experience working within a Secondary and/or Further Education environment is essential.
3. Proven experience working with students with SEMH or other SEND-related needs.
4. Empathetic, patient, and resilient with the ability to build rapport with young people.
5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to confidentiality.
6. Ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.
7. Prepared to undertake further training and professional development opportunities.
8. Must be eligible to work in the UK.
