Head of Pricing Risk Selection
Role Description
We are looking for a candidate for a newly created Head of Retail Risk Selection role to join the Retail Portfolio Pricing and Underwriting team.
The Retail Risk Selection team aims to increase our focus on footprint management and the usage of our claims cost models across our Retail products, by housing these under one team. The team will be responsible for LV= General Insurance’s direct motor, home, travel and rescue products under the LV= and Allianz brands. The team will be multi-skilled in pricing, underwriting and data analytics.
Given this is a newly created team, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape the team from scratch. As such, we are looking for a great people leader who will establish and maintain a high-performing team. They will be a thought leader in both pricing and underwriting, able to lead development of new techniques and improve efficiency in existing processes.
You'll participate in the Global P&C Academy accreditation, enhancing your skills in underwriting, risk engineering, pricing, and claims management while exchanging best practices across the Allianz Group. Furthermore, for pricing-based roles, Allianz Insurance offers a generous study package to enable the actuarial qualification to be obtained through the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in the UK.

Salary Information
Pay: Circa £100,000 per year.
Pay is based on relevant experience, skills for the role, and location. Salary is only one part of our total reward package.
About You
As the Head of Retail Risk Selection you will;
* Contribute to the product underwriting strategy
* Own the underwriting rules/footprint for retail products:
* Translate the risk appetite statements from the Technical Underwriting team into specific underwriting rules and controls
* Analyse opportunities to expand or contract the underwriting footprint, based on our level of confidence in our pricing models, competitor pricing etc.
* Monitor quotability and report on KRIs relating to footprint
* Present proposals to change underwriting rules to Trading or Monthly Pricing and Underwriting Forum
* Propose changes to deal with emerging risks, e.g. upcoming weather events
* Implement changes to the underwriting rules within Radar Live.
* Manage and support key stakeholders across Retail and within LV= General Insurance, and to be a champion of pricing and underwriting by ensuring business wide engagement in key activity/initiatives.
Essential Skills
* You'll be our true expert and an advocate for change! We're seeking someone who can bring the best out of pricing and underwriting skillsets, by challenging the status quo to introduce innovation.
* You will also champion the Retail Risk Selection team’s value to the business, and be an ambassador for excellence in pricing and underwriting.
* Your significant experience of pricing and underwriting will be critical. In owning our footprint, you are the guardian of the business we underwrite and will be key to delivery of our the financial targets.
* We expect you to balance supporting the delivery of the P&L, without exposing us to excessive risk outside our appetite. In doing so, you’ll be responsible for monitoring our exposure against our Key Risk Indicators, and reporting on their performance to senior stakeholders.
* As part of the role, you'll be collaborating closely with the Retail Motor and Retail Household pricing teams, who are for the final price to market for our products, and also our Pricing Technical Excellence team, who are responsible for our risk cost models.
