The role We are looking for a creative and ambitious director to play a leading role in the delivery of co-curricular drama and theatre at Uppingham School. As Director of Theatre, you will be responsible for overseeing the professional theatrical programme at Uppingham Theatre and the theatre facilities, managing a full-time and visiting team of staff to support the delivery of all aspects of co-curricular drama. You will also assume full budgetary responsibility for all extra-curricular and professional productions. Working closely with the Head of Academic Drama (who is managed by the Deputy Head Academic), you will also be expected to teach a reduced timetable of drama within the taught curriculum. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic leader to develop and shape a creative vision for theatre and drama at Uppingham School, maintaining our reputation for excellence and inspiring students to play a full and active role within the performing arts faculty. About you You will be an energetic, creative and dedicated individual, with significant experience of directing both large and small-scale productions. With a strong honours degree and excellent knowledge of theatre, you will possess a proven track record of success in leading and developing an effective theatre team. As you will be working closely with students and performers, you will need excellent communication and management skills, well-developed pastoral instincts and the ability to form an outstanding rapport with students. The Uppingham Theatre is a well-established, fully equipped 300-seat theatre which regularly stages School productions ranging from big musicals to classic productions and house plays. There is also the highly flexible Williams Studio in which small-scale drama clubs, professional productions, music, and practical teaching take place.
