In association with all Consultant Anaesthetists, the successful candidate will carry shared responsibility for the organisation and operation of all aspects of clinical and supporting work of the Anaesthetic department.
Main duties of the job
The definitive job plan will be agreed in conjunction with the post-holders' skills and experience. This proposed 10PA post will consist of 58 programmed activities (DCC) over an 8 week cycle, some weeks have a higher number of DCC sessions than others, and it is remunerated at 7.25 DCC Programmed activities per week.

Job responsibilities
The actual content of programmed activities will be monitored periodically by use of a work diary at job plan review. It is anticipated that the job plan will include fixed sessions in Obstetric Anaesthesia with responsibilities to deliver elective and emergency obstetric activity. Other DCC activity will be timetabled theatre-based sessions with flexible specialty content agreed with the successful candidate.
The successful candidate will share responsibility for continuing clinical cover with consultant colleagues. When on call, the Duty Consultant will take an active role in the direction of the emergency team. Attendance on-site is required at times of peak activity: evenings and weekend daytime, it is expected that an onsite handover will take place from the night team at 8.00am followed by a Duty Consultant morning ward round at 8.30am on the ICU at weekends.
