About Us Our purpose is simple, to save lives at sea. For 200 years, the RNLI has been working to save those who are in danger of drowning, and our volunteers are tirelessly raising the funds we need to support them. We are looking for a Senior Business Intelligence Engineer to join us for up to 24 months in supporting our lifesavers to fulfil this purpose. The RNLI are embarking on an exciting journey to use data to drive the organisation and decisions both now and in the future. We’re looking for exceptional individuals to be part of a fantastic team with data driving our lifesaving activities, helping us develop a vibrant data culture where evidence is at the heart of the decision-making process. The Data Department is temporarily expanding to allow us space to work on a strategic ERP deployment project (Dynamics 365), so we are interested in hearing from both people who would like to help us implement BI from a new instance of Dynamics 365, and also those who would be interested in helping to keep our current BI available and improving whilst our focus is on the upgrade of ERP. As a Senior Business Intelligence Engineer, you will become an important part of our Data department with the aim of supporting the business and improving the way we derive insights and evidence that will lead to fewer lives lost from drowning. You will work closely with our Data Engineering team and systems experts to ensure we consume data from our source systems in the right way, then transform and model this data for use across the organisation. This is a Hybrid contract between home and Poole, although we would consider candidates based anywhere in the UK or Ireland, as only a minimal requirement to attend the office, a few times a year (as required). Some of the benefits Salary £50,000 to £55,000 (dependent on experience) Flexible working 26 days’ annual leave plus Bank Holidays Outstanding pension scheme (contributions of up to 16% of basic salary) Life assurance Health and dental cash plan Your Role As a Senior Business Intelligence Engineer, you will be tasked with the following: Design and implement BI solutions utilizing Azure Databricks and the Microsoft BI stack in line with best practices. Your work will support various business functions, with a primary focus on data from our ERP system. Engage with business stakeholders to thoroughly understand their reporting requirements and deliver high-quality BI solutions that meet the data requirements of our internal customers. About You To be considered as a Senior Business Intelligence Engineer you will need: To demonstrate strong self-motivation and excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively both independently and as a collaborative team member, as well as the ability to lead on new and existing data projects. To possess strong technical expertise in data modelling, with a strong understanding of data warehousing practices and experience of creating robust data warehouse models to meet complex reporting and analytical needs. Vast experience implementing performant and efficient SQL solutions, with a full understanding of Stored Procedures, Functions, Views, and other objects. Strong knowledge and experience working with the Microsoft BI stack including Power BI, SSAS, SSIS, and SSRS. Strong understanding of the ETL (Extraction, Transform, Load) process, with an understanding of how data should be consumed and structured throughout each level of ingestion and transformation to a presentation layer to deliver business intelligence reporting. This includes experience of data lineage testing to ensure data quality throughout the ETL process and can check their work as they develop. An understanding of Data Lake / Data Lakehouse best practices. A large appetite for learning and a willingness to share their experience with their team and help us to grow and do great things together. Experience in the use of source control and task management tools. Familiarity with TFS, Azure DevOps, and Git is highly desirable. An understanding of the software development lifecycle and a familiarity working in an agile environment. It Is Desirable To Also Possess Strong UI and UX skills with a passion for best practices in data visualisation. Practical experience working with the Azure Databricks platform. Practical experience working with SSAS OLAP Cubes. An understanding of cloud-based technologies such as Microsoft Azure.
