Sister/ Charge Nurse

Band: 6 £37,338 - £44,962 Per annum, pro rata if part time
Hours: Full time, 37.5 per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working
Ward 21 is a 27 bed unit within the surgical division at MKUH, split into two areas: one for elective orthopaedics and the other for emergency gynaecology, urology, and emergency surgery.
We are looking for an experienced nurse to provide high standards of care to patients across various surgical disciplines, including but not limited to: Orthopaedics, Gynaecology, Urology, and General Surgery.
Effective communication is vital as we work across several multidisciplinary teams to provide timely holistic care, including support for women undergoing miscarriages in the first and second trimester. Experience in this area is preferred, although bespoke training and support will be provided.
You will be expected to provide a supportive role and contribute to the education and training of student nurses, medical students, and other trainees on Ward 21. Strong organisational and leadership skills are essential as you will need to prioritise and delegate in a changing and challenging environment while supporting staff on shift.

Main duties of the job
1. Act as a senior member of the nursing team to ensure safe and effective care for patients.
2. Represent the ward in the absence of the ward manager.
3. Supervise and develop the knowledge and skills of junior staff.
4. Oversee and record comprehensive nursing assessments to ensure high standards of care are delivered and evaluated using evidence-based models.
5. Provide clinical expertise.
