Contract Type : Permanent
Salary: Grade H. SCP 29 £38,626 - SCP 31 £40,476
Hours Per Week: 36 hours
Base Location: Tameside One, Ashton-under-Lyne
Assessment Date : Interviews in early to mid January 2025
The Role
Housing Adaptations is seeking a Senior Surveyor to join the team to help deliver a large program of adaptations over the coming years. Over the last 12 months we have been recruiting additional team members and we now find ourselves in a position to recruit another surveyor. In Housing Adaptations, the Surveyor role is like that of a Technical Officer in other local authorities.
With a current Disabled Facilities Grant allocation in excess of £3M per year and due to rise in 2025/26, we are looking for a candidate who is customer focused and able to achieve excellent results under pressure.
The team is very busy with around 300 major grant approvals per year. There is a constant flow of work, however you should find the work very rewarding in the knowledge that you are helping the most vulnerable in the borough.
Your role will be to help clients in the preparation of a scheme designed to meet their assessed needs and, in some cases, assist them in the application process associated with the Disabled Facilities Grant and other discretionary adaptation grants we offer via our RRO Policy.
Another part of your role will be providing technical advice to Occupational Therapists to determine if the works they suggest are feasible. You will also attend Case Review Meetings and offer advice and guidance on all queries arising from applicants who are accessing the Council for a Disabled Facilities Grant and any other grant it may offer at the time.
In addition, you may be required to provide technical advice on a range of other building and construction issues related other housing improvements/ disrepair issues that may arise within Commissioning and Homes for All
About You
You will be committed to delivering excellent customer service, delivering value for money, be able to work on your own and as part of a team.
Ideally you will have experience working in local authority or working in a Home Improvement Agency where grant works are approved and carried out for the client.
Ideally you will have experience and knowledge of dealing with adaptations and the DFG process. Experience in dealing with builders and supervision of building works is a requirement.
We do understand that DFG is a niche area so local government and adaptations experience is not a deal breaker. If you have suitable transferable skills from a similar building related discipline, we would like to talk with you because you may be able to bring new skills to the team and we will provide training on delivering adaptations within a local authority
Ideally you should have experience of using CAD and writing specifications but as not all CAD systems are the same, we will provide training.
We intend to hold interviews in early to mid January 2025, and we will advise you as soon as possible if we would like to meet with you. Part of the interview process will include a test so that we can assess your technical skills.
