You will be joining a fast-paced procurement team at a crucial and exciting time, as we plan and prepare for the introduction of the new Procurement Act in early 2025. You will play a lead role in driving improvements and best practice within our category led approach to procurement. The procurement team leads on all procurement activity across the organisation. The team delivers a cohesive, customer focused procurement activity, aligned to service requirements, commissioning needs and objectives, to benefit stakeholders and Salford residents About the Role We are looking for an engaging, proactive, ambitious, enthusiastic procurement professional who is customer focused and is able to demonstrate the Council s values, behaviours and expectations whilst continually striving for excellence. You will play an important role in the delivery of a fantastic, forward thinking, flexible, creative, commercial and collaborative procurement team, which aims to exemplify excellent procurement practice About you As a Category Manager, you will be self-disciplined, working within a busy and progressive department and be responsible for planning and driving a busy pipeline of procurement activity for People Services at pace, delivering improved service outcomes, value for money and improved social value as part of the ongoing service delivery. Our ideal candidate is highly motivated and appreciates a demanding workload, working to tight deadlines with a variety of stakeholders across Children Services, Public Health and Adults. You will have experience of operating within a public sector environment, with an understanding of the commissioning cycle and the role that procurement plays within it. You must either be CIPS level 6 qualified or have been operating at an equivalent level with strong commercial skills. You must be experienced in delivering improved Social Value outcomes as part of the procurement planning and approach, ensuring that benefits are delivered within the city whilst striving to improve quality and raise standards.
