We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Trainee Biological Safety Officer. This role is designed for individuals with proven experience working in Containment Level 3 laboratories, who are passionate about biological safety and eager to develop their skills in a supportive and dynamic environment. The Trainee Biological Safety Officer will assist in ensuring compliance with biological safety regulations and guidelines and will play a key role in maintaining a safe working environment at Imperial. Upon successful completion of the training programme, and passing an interview with senior safety management, the role holder will progress and be appointed as a biological safety officer
You will assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of the biological safety programme at Imperial. Your responsibilities will include reviewing biological risk assessments, assisting in conducting audits and investigating incidents involving biological materials, and maintaining accurate records. You will collaborate with Principal Investigators and laboratory managers to ensure adherence to biosafety policies and procedures. Additionally, you will actively participate in training sessions, workshops, and meetings to enhance your knowledge of biological safety practices.
1. Degree in a life science or related discipline
2. Minimum of two years’ experience conducting deliberate work with HG3 pathogens
3. Experience writing biological risk assessments for work with HG3 pathogens and genetically modified microorganisms
4. Excellent organisational skills, good time management, and ability to set priorities and work to deadlines
5. Strong communication and interpersonal skills across all levels, both written and verbal
6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team
7. Quick and enthusiastic learner with a willingness to undertake necessary training for the role
8. A successful completion of the training programme and passing the interview with senior safety management will lead to your appointment as a fully-fledged Biological Safety Officer.
