About the Role
The Growing Manager will be actively involved in all aspects of fruit crop production, including propagation, pest and disease management, environmental controls, and continuous improvement. Working closely with the Farm Manager and external consultants, this role offers the chance to help shape the future of growing operations across a wide range of fruit crops.
Key Responsibilities
1. Actively involved in growing all fruit crops in collaboration with the Farm Manager
2. Contribute to plant propagation and overall crop health
3. Conduct regular crop inspections for pests and diseases
4. Oversee day-to-day husbandry work, including setting tasks and piece rates
5. Support forward planning around crop schedules and labour needs
6. Manage environmental control systems within protected growing structures
7. Lead and contribute to trial work on new varieties, growing techniques, and labour-saving methods
8. Engage in new crop projects and collaborate with plant raisers and industry partners
9. Develop and review growing strategies alongside the Head of Category
The Ideal Candidate
1. Experienced in commercial fruit growing, ideally soft fruit
2. Knowledgeable in pest/disease management and plant health diagnostics
3. Forward-thinking, with a passion for innovation and trial work
4. Excellent planning, communication, and leadership skills
5. Highly organised and adaptable to the evolving needs of a fast-paced farming operation
