Apave UK is an established provider of specialist inspection and testing services to a range of industry sectors, including power generation, casting, aerospace, petro-chemical and oil & gas to companies around the UK and overseas. Due to continued expansion, we are now looking for a Metallurgist / Senior Metallurgist to join our Power Technology Group based in Derby. The successful candidate will conduct failure investigations, metallurgical examinations and routine metallurgical and corrosion tests. Your Profile You should have knowledge and experience in some or all of the following: Conducting failure investigations and metallurgical examinations. · Conducting metallurgical and corrosion tests to national specifications. · Mechanical testing of metallic materials. · Writing test procedures. Materials selection and degradation mechanisms relevant to power plant components and/or other industries. Assessing metallographic replicas e.g. for creep damage. Working in a UKAS 17025 accredited laboratory. Managing projects to time, cost and quality. You should also have: A good attention to detail and a high standard of written and spoken English, including experience of technical report writing. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a track record of building strong working relationships with your colleagues and customers. Qualifications Degree or suitable alternative in a rel evant subject such as Metallurgy / Materials Science or Physics. A Chartered Engineer or prepared to work towards professional registration. Whilst the role will be predominantly laboratory/office based, you may be required to work away from home occasionally at customer sites.
