Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, forward thinking and experienced HCPC registered Senior Biomedical Scientist (BMS) to join our existing team to further develop the Infection Science service at the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust (UHNM). This role will also include IT responsibility.
We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic HCPC registered Senior BMS with IT responsibilities to join our team.
A fixed term or secondment opportunity may also be considered.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will work as part of a team of Bacteriology staff based at the Royal Stoke University Hospital site. Applicants will be expected to have significant Microbiology experience and will be expected to take on IT responsibilities. You must be a strong team player who has a positive attitude to change. You must have excellent organisational and communication skills.
We are fully equipped with UF5000, Vitek XL, BDMax, WaspLab, BDMgit, Virtuo and MaldiTof Prime.
Please note that this is not a trainee post and applicants without the IBMS Specialist portfolio or equivalent qualification will not be considered.

Managerially accountable to: Departmental Lead Biomedical Scientist (BMS)
Professionally accountable to: Pathology Directorate Manager and Clinical Director
Key Relationships: [Internal] Pathology Medical staff, Senior Pathology staff and all other staff in Pathology including support functions staff and laboratory users. [External] Relevant Medical, Nursing and support staff, General Practitioners, other Health professionals and reception staff.
Role Summary
Responsible as leading BMS for a specialist area / section. To manage and co-ordinate the day-to-day technical activities of the laboratory or main specialist section; including supervision and training of scientific and support staff in area of work. To be an efficient and flexible member of the laboratory team providing a high quality diagnostic service through specialist scientific and technical activities commensurate with the training and education of a Biomedical Scientist registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC). To provide specialist advice to clinicians (and to other laboratory users). To work within the written Policies and Procedures of the Department especially in relation to Health and Safety and Quality. To maintain competence to practice and to improve professional expertise through engagement in Continuous Professional Development (CPD).

Qualifications
Essential
1. HCPC registration
2. MSc or equivalent
3. 5 or more years post HCPC registration experience in Bacteriology
4. IBMS specialist Diploma in Microbiology or equivalent

7. Working with complex and specialist laboratory equipment.
