Birmingham Wheelchair Service is part of the Equipment & Technology Group within Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. The service is based out of the West Midlands Rehabilitation Centre, however runs clinics and home visits across the whole of Birmingham. The team is made up of a therapy lead, service manager, rehabilitation engineers, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, an assistant practitioner, wheelchair technician, Warehouse assistant and administration team. Wheelchairs are provided to children and adults ranging from standard wheelchairs to bespoke customised seating in order to improve the patient’s quality of life and independence.
The post holder will support Birmingham Wheelchair Service in the provision of the clinical service by ensuring equipment is checked to specification and available for clinical activity at the West Midlands Rehabilitation Centre and other locations. All duties will be undertaken with the guidance of relevant clinicians and administration teams. The role will include organisation and management of the storage areas and will include the use of the Service vans to move equipment. With the guidance of the clinicians, the post holder will make minor modifications to wheelchairs including the fitting of accessories.
Supporting picking, receipting and despatch of wheelchairs, cushions and accessories.Manage stock moving through Birmingham Wheelchair Service
Completing regular stock takes, ordering, asseting, accepting deliveries and arranging collections, utilising computer systems in place and following set procedures
Assist in the manual handling of wheelchairs and associated items for the patients.
Supporting clinical staff with minor modifications and fitting parts to wheelchairs
Maintain accurate written and electronic records of any clinical interventions in accordance with trust standards
Replace existing equipment like for like such as lap belts and harnesses
Delivering/collecting equipment to/from patients home and other locations
Liaising with manufacturers and approved repair contractor
Driving team van, loading and unloading the van
Maintain assessment stock, charging powered wheelchairs, raising repairs where needed
Updating and monitoring stock control spreadsheets utilising IT systems in place
Completing goods inwards procedure, checking all deliveries are complete and raising discrepancies with manufacturers/approved repairer

Qualifications
GCSE or equivalent qualification in Maths andEnglish.
NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship/Engineering Qualification
Experience
Experience in a Warehouse/Stores environment/Mechanical Workshop.
Experience of stock management.
