Specialist Induction of Labour Pathway and Quality Improvement Midwife

An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit an experienced Midwife to lead the Induction of Labour Pathway and support other quality improvement projects at Medway NHS Foundation Trust.
Main duties of the job
Take the lead in managing the daily activity of the Induction of Labour Pathway.
Prioritise time with families on the Induction of Labour Pathway providing clinic appointments when required.
Clear communication and education provision with families on the Induction of Labour Pathway.
Coordinate the flow of the inductions in order to keep both women and birthing people and their babies safe.
Develop and maintain evidence based, innovative clinical pathways. which are benchmarked against National Guidance and our peers; facilitated by strong MDT relationships, both internal and external to the organisation.

Job responsibilities
Maintain current knowledge of research and trends in midwifery care and participate in the formulation of evidence based practices, policies and standards for the maternity services.
Promote a culture of equality, diversity and human rights.
Provide support and care for families respecting their need for privacy and dignity.
Communicate effectively with the wider multidisciplinary teams to explore prioritisation and problems professionally.
Support the members of the team on shift to develop and create opportunities to enhance learning.
Support and advocate for women and birthing people who choose to receive care outside of national guidance ensuring adequate communication and documentation with the wider multi- disciplinary team.
Agree the arrangements for communication with women and birthing people and document these in accordance with the Trust policy and the right to confidentiality. Ensure that essential information on the women and birthing people and their babies condition and progress, is recorded appropriately according to the NMC code.
Identify, analyse and interpret facts and information to ensure management is in accordance to risk throughout their pregnancy journey.
Collect, analyse and use data to constantly improve the service.
Support in other quality improvement programmes when required.
Support clinically in times of high acuity.
Experience and proficiency required in using the various electronic IT systems throughout the trust and to support staff in the development of these skills.
Work in line with the Trusts Health & Safety policy ensuring that other members of staff are protected and relevant equipment is available.
Understand own role and scope, identifying own development needs, taking responsibility for continuing professional development and performance whilst maintaining a personal development plan.
Make effective use of appropriate learning opportunities for themselves and others, applying learning to practice and future developments.
Undertake annual mandatory training updates and other relevant courses in line with the Trust and local policies. Act as a role model, supporting professional development of all students and staff.
Participate in the Manager On Call system requiring unit oversight and escalation at night if appropriate (may require attendance to unit). Participation in an on call roster during working day is also required to support clinically in times of high acuity across the maternity unit
Provide line management to Rotational Band 6 midwives as required by service

Qualifications
Essential
1. Registered Midwife qualified to degree level
2. Recognised leadership qualification/experience
3. Masters or evidence of significant post registration education
4. Commitment to professional development
Knowledge & Experience
Essential
5. Current knowledge of National Induction of Labour guidance and pathways impacting upon local service
6. Evidence of participation in quality improvement projects and ability to lead future projects
7. Evidence of participation in research and audit
Skills

8. Significant antenatal and induction care experience, including insertion of CRB
9. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
10. Ability to organise, prioritise and coordinate own work
