The Company Law & Governance directorate sets the standards and lays down the law upon which businesses operate in the UK. We shape everything from boardroom decisions, business transparency standards, and green & clean balance sheets. Our work involves a fascinating interaction of law, business and ethics. As the bedrock for a healthy economy, we are currently delivering a number of landmark reforms for this government, to support a new era for economic growth.
We are looking for a strong, experienced and inspirational policy team leader to take forward groundbreaking reforms under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023. The Act gives the powers for the biggest overhaul of company law and Companies House in 150 years, to increase transparency and root out criminals using corporate structures to hide illicit wealth and undertake crime. Some of the biggest reforms are yet to be delivered, with complex policy and legislative decisions to take, and support to successful operational delivery at Companies House. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a team of 8-10 and work closely with ministers, parliament, operational partners and businesses to deliver changes which affect 5 million companies in the UK and play a key role in tackling economic crime. Our team are closely involved in the government’s recently announced campaign against corruption and illicit finance.
This is an exciting and stretching Grade 6 role. You will play a key role in designing and delivering landmark policies, leading a team to achieve ambitious goals at pace. We are looking for someone with strong experience in policy development within government and proven leadership skills to guide and inspire others.

You will head a team of 8-10 (including 3-4 Grade 7s) to lead the policy design and delivery of a number of reforms to Companies House under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act. These will likely include:
* Identity verification for over 7 million company owners and directors;
* Crack down on the abuse of limited partnerships;
* Mandation of digital filing at Companies House;
* Increased transparency through the Register of Overseas Entities.
You will set strong policy and people leadership and direction to your team, taking judgement calls on where to coach, empower, manage performance, support learning and assure quality within your team.
With your team you will:
* Work with Companies House, lawyers, analysts, stakeholders, company law experts and other government departments to design and deliver effective and impactful policies – ensuring they are well designed and can effectively be delivered by Companies House. This will involve consultations, regular advice to ministers, stakeholder engagement, and primary and secondary legislation.
* Build strong relationships with Companies House, ministers, external stakeholders and across Whitehall, regularly attending and influencing Companies House programme boards and wider anti-corruption and illicit finance boards.
* Manage strong public, political and departmental interest in this area through strong communication (including to ministers), strategic engagement, and careful relationship management.
* You will also take an active role in the leadership of the wider team and directorate.
