Job Summary:
The Estimating Engineer will play a crucial role in supporting the sales department in all aspects of the estimating function. You will be responsible for assessing incoming enquiries, entering customer details into our ERP system, formatting enquiries for subcontractors, ensuring NDA adherence, and completing quotations specific to investment casting projects. Additionally, you will be happy to learn and actively stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and pricing from suppliers. This position also involves supporting the estimating and sales administration teams during absences and holidays. The Estimating Engineer will work closely with the NPI engineer, Technical department, Sales Team, occasionally visiting customers as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
1. All aspects of the estimating function, ensuring accurate and timely completion of tasks.
2. Assess incoming enquiries related to our manufacturing processes, follow the reporting board, to determine project requirements and evaluate feasibility.
3. Enter customer details into the ERP system, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records.
4. Serve as the primary cover for holidays and absences for the estimating and sales administration teams, ensuring continuity of operations.
5. Format enquiries and send them to subcontractors specialising in different manufacturing processes, managing the return of RFQ (Request for Quotation) and completing the quotation process.
6. Process investment casting quotations in accordance with established guidelines and pricing structures.
7. Carefully redact information on drawings etc to pass the correct information to suppliers.
8. Adopt ongoing continuous personal development specific trainings to the investment casting industry to stay informed about industry updates, trends, and best practices.
9. Help develop new suppliers.
10. Maintain an up-to-date price list from suppliers, ensuring accurate pricing information is readily available.
11. Learn and write Standard operating procedures.
12. Recognise and focus on prime targets, identifying key opportunities for margins and business growth.
13. Take a lead role in developing the estimating system within the ERP system, suggesting improvements, and implementing enhancements.
14. Maintain an up-to-date cost database for all subcontract activities, ensuring accurate and competitive pricing.
15. Provide support to the New Product Introduction (NPI) process as required, collaborating with the NPI engineer and other stakeholders.
16. Occasionally have meeting with or visit customers with the sales team to establish strong relationships and gather project requirements.
17. Stay aware of new technologies that can assist the investment casting function or present potential threats to our operations.
18. Proactive, team player, adaptive, ability to multi-task and work under pressure is of high priority.
Qualifications and Skills:
* Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or previous experience in an engineering background (costing related role desirable). (Desirable)
* Good understanding of the manufacturing process including – investment casting, forging, MIM, etc (Desirable)
* Familiar with technical or quality related engineering documents and ability to interpret.
* Proficient in all Microsoft software, specifically Excel and Word.
* Basic understanding on operation of 3D viewing software. (Desirable)
* Basic understanding of engineering drawings and symbols. (Required)
* An understanding of metals and metal composition. (Desirable)
* A keen and strong willingness to learn.
Role Objectives:
* Providing accurate quotations in line with specified profit margins and identifying opportunity for growth of profit scale.
* Ensure appropriate resources are allocated to the correct areas, to improve quote conversion rate and improve profits.
* Contribute to growth and progress towards targeted annual sales.
* To achieve KPI targets.
