Are you looking to put your legal expertise to work in a role where you can make a meaningful impact on public sector housing? As a Housing Solicitor, you’ll be dealing with a varied and interesting caseload, including civil and criminal litigation in the County Court and Magistrates' Court. Your role will involve representing the Council in court, presenting housing law cases, and managing resources to provide a high-quality service that delivers value for money.
You’ll also have the opportunity to draft a range of legal documents, ensuring they meet the highest standards. From advising Members, Directors, and other key stakeholders, to attending meetings and committees, your communication skills—both written and verbal—will be essential. You’ll work autonomously on your caseload, but with the support of the Senior Solicitor Housing when needed.
Please note this role does not attract sponsorship.
About you
You’re an experienced legal professional, with at least 1 year PQE as an Admitted Solicitor, Barrister, or Fellow of CILEX. You bring experience in civil and/or criminal litigation, and you’ve confidently appeared in County and/or Magistrates' Courts. Your understanding of Housing Law, Civil Procedure Rules, GDPR, and Local Government Law is robust, and you can apply this knowledge to real-world cases with minimal supervision.
Your ability to draft documents, manage your caseload, and work with a clear, systematic approach sets you apart. You’re a natural problem-solver, capable of assessing both business and legal risks, and your strong communication skills enable you to convey complex information in a clear and concise manner. You also bring a good working knowledge of equalities issues and legislation, with the insight to identify and address any potential discrimination in service delivery or the workplace.
Proficient in ICT, you’re comfortable using case management systems and word-processing software, and you’re ready to embrace agile and flexible working. Above all, you’re committed to delivering a high-quality service to meet the needs of the Council and its residents.
This is a public facing role so you’ll need to show off your fluency in speaking and writing English.
