The Judicial Institute for Scotland have a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate to join them as an Education and Learning Manager on a full time, fixed term basis for 9 months with the possibility of extension thereafter.
You will work closely with the Senior Education and Learning Manager to deliver on the educational strategy and the educational philosophy of the Judicial Institute. You will be one of two Education and Learning Managers who operate in multilateral working teams and systems and will need to collaborate closely with various members of the Judicial Institute team.
You will provide learning support for the whole Judicial Institute programme of work; will have a role to play in following the full learning life-cycle in respect of judicial education courses and will be expected to think strategically and creatively within that role.
You will be involved in the planning, development, delivery, and evaluation of each course assigned to you and will work closely with the Operations Manager who manages all JI events. You will liaise closely with digital education and learning colleagues, becoming a confident user in critical learning technologies.
You should possess excellent oral and written communication skills. You will be part of a team at the Judicial Institute which has a critical role supporting justice in Scotland, through the highest standards of judicial training and education.
It is essential you have a qualification or equivalent experience in education or a learning and development related field.
The Key Responsibilities include:
Provide a key support role to the course directors and Senior Education and Learning Manager in the course design process and preparing programme and course outlines for each course.
Actively champion the Judicial Institute educational philosophy and the Education Strategy, internally (with the team and senior managers) and externally (with course contributors), and support senior managers to implement them and to deliver on strategic goals.
Be responsible for preparing and testing all learning tools and activities and become a power user of a suite of learning technologies.
Be the lead onsite learning support for courses which includes:
*attendance, virtual or in person, at all courses assigned to you
in-course support for all the Learning Suite facilities and the course contributors themselves.
*on-the-day course schedule and materials management
liaison with on-the-day event management support as required.
You will be the central manager of course workflows and relationships by ensuring all roles are appropriately coordinated and course related matters are dealt with in a timely, flexible and efficient manner. This will involve working in complex, multilateral work dynamics including:
*supporting Course Directors and the Senior Education and Learning Manager in relation to course design and planning, delivery and evaluation;
*liaising with the Operations Manager in relation to the pre-course and on the day event management matters;
*commissioning Legal Assistants to conduct legal research pertaining to specific courses;
*delegating to Course Officers in relation to course administration;
*liaising with digital education and learning colleagues in relation to digital enhancements to face-to-face courses;
*working with the Legal and Secretariat Manager on the development of online resource kits.
You will be expected to lead the course debriefing process, facilitating a 360’ evaluation of the course and highlighting areas of improvement for future course iterations.
Schedule and take responsibility for the upload of Learning Materials pertaining to courses to the digital repository and the Judicial Hub.
Take the lead on establishing on-going relationships with course contributors, ensuring that contributions are underpinned by our educational philosophy.
Establish and build a network of effective communications and working relationships with other divisions of SCTS.
Take initiative in anticipating and responding to course-related problems.
Develop a standardised format for course frameworks and materials with particular focus on quality and consistency of presentation.
You will have direct line management responsibility for one Project Support Officer (EO) post.
