About the Position:
We are hiring an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer on behalf of a leading client in the Aerospace and Defence industry. This role is critical in ensuring that products and processes meet the highest quality standards. The successful candidate will contribute to innovative projects, leveraging expertise in 3D modelling, mechanical design, and design-to-manufacture processes, while also addressing non-conformance issues and driving continuous improvement.
This position is only open to sole UK nationals due to security clearance requirements.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Develop 3D models, create conceptual designs, and produce high-quality 2D manufacturing drawings, including GD&T.
2. Design mechanical components, parts, assemblies, and subassemblies, focusing on heavy industry applications such as power transmission systems, gears, and gearboxes.
3. Conduct detailed investigations of non-conformance issues, including root cause and failure mode analyses.
4. Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to develop and implement corrective actions.
5. Ensure that all designs comply with structural design methodologies and practices, including significant structural redesigns when necessary.
6. Maintain accurate documentation of investigations, corrective actions, and non-conformance reports.
7. Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance manufacturing processes and reduce non-conformance.
Experience Required:
1. Proficiency in 3D CAD software for modelling and drawing, ideally Solid Edge.
2. Strong ability to interpret and create high-quality engineering CAD models and manufacturing drawings.
3. Experience designing mechanical components for heavy engineering, including power transmission systems and gearboxes.
4. Familiarity with subsystems that impact mechanical design and layout.
5. Knowledge of quality management systems and industry standards such as AS9100 and ISO 9001.
6. Skilled in root cause and failure mode analysis techniques.
7. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with attention to detail and a focus on continuous improvement.
8. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Requirements:
1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
2. Proven experience in a similar role within the Aerospace and Defence industry.
3. Familiarity with structural design practices and methodologies.
This role requires sole UK nationals to meet security clearance criteria.
