An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint a part-time receptionist to join the A&E Department at Weston General Hospital. We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic candidate who thrives in a busy and supportive working environment.
The role of the receptionist is integral to all that we do. You must be able to greet patients, be approachable and empathic to patient needs, but also able to work under pressure. The role can sometimes be demanding with telephone calls to answer as well as demands of patients and other staff. The role requires a huge amount of computer work. High standards as well as speed and accuracy are of huge emphasis.
The working pattern is over a rolling 4 week period as follows:
1. Week 1
o Tuesday 0800-1800
o Friday 1800-2200
o Sunday 1800-2200
2. Week 2
o Tuesday 0800-1800
o Friday 1330-1830
o Saturday 1830-0330
3. Week 3
o Tuesday 1800-2200
o Thursday 1800-2200
4. Week 4
o Tuesday 0800-1800
o Saturday 1800-2200
o Sunday 1330-1830
Interviews will be held on Monday 16th December 2024.
Main duties of the job
To provide high quality reception services for the Trust and maintain the highest standards of service delivery and customer care. Act as a first point of contact assistance to patients, relatives or other members of the public who attend or make contact by phone to the emergency department.
To organise their workload in accordance with the demands of the department.
To co-ordinate daily activities to ensure efficiency of service within the organisation.
To exercise initiative.
To ensure that confidentiality is maintained at all times.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Good standard of general education at GCSE grade C or above or equivalent
* ECDL, or equivalent qualification or experience of using computer systems and following Microsoft Office packages - Word, Excel, and Outlook
* Administrative qualification or working towards e.g. NVQ level 2, or equivalent qualification or experience
Knowledge
* Basic knowledge of NHS related legislation and codes of practice i.e. confidentiality and data protection
* A good understanding of how to work electrical equipment i.e. computers, photocopiers, and printers
* Knowledge and experience of using computer systems and Microsoft Packages
* Experience of team working to achieve performance targets
* Minimum of 2 years' experience of working in a fast-paced office environment
* Experience of working with the public
* A basic understanding of medical terminology
* Minimum of 2 years' experience of working in the NHS or similar organisation
Skills
* Must have good organisational skills and self-management with ability to multitask to meet targets and deadlines
* Must have excellent customer service skills for both internal and external users both face to face and via telephone
* Must be able to work under pressure with frequent interruptions
* Must have the ability to work alone and as part of a team
* Must be able to think logically and methodically within working practices
* Flexible attitude to ensure that optimum support is offered to the Service Leads and administrators in delivering services to patients
* Ability to put people at ease and recognise emotional needs of visitors
