Your Role We’re looking for a Hygiene Operative to ensure our vertical farm remains a clean, safe, and hygienic environment that meets, if not exceeds, all food hygiene standards. This role is essential to maintaining operational excellence by supporting the production of high-quality food products in a hygienic setting. Location: This role will be based in Sandwich with a 4 on 4 off shift pattern. You’ll work closely with the production, quality, and technical teams, playing a key role in maintaining hygiene standards across the facility. As part of this role, you’ll be expected to stand tall—delivering results with integrity and accountability. Who you’ll be working with You’ll be part of a dedicated Hygiene Team, working alongside other operatives and coordinators to ensure a clean and compliant environment across the production areas. What you’ll be doing A typical day may involve working in the following areas, carrying out key hygiene tasks: Factory & Production Areas Cleaning and sanitizing production lines, equipment, and high-care zones. Ensuring all housekeeping equipment is in good working order and reporting faults. Maintaining an inventory of cleaning equipment and replenishing supplies as needed. Chemical Handling & Safety Decanting and handling cleaning and sanitizing chemicals safely. Carrying out log-out and tag-out procedures on equipment when necessary. Ensuring correct PPE is worn at all times and personal hygiene meets high standards. Compliance & Record Keeping Completing cleaning records accurately and ensuring safety checks are carried out. Following Cleaning Instruction Cards (CIC) and standard cleaning procedures. Identifying and escalating any risks to food safety, health, and safety, or damaged/faulty equipment. Continuous Improvement & Teamwork Looking for efficiency improvements and challenging existing processes where necessary. Creating and maintaining a tidy work environment, following the "clean as you go" policy. Supporting and promoting an active food safety and health & safety culture. What skills you should have We’re looking for someone who is deep rooted, passionate about people, the planet, and (of course) leafy greens, someone who thrives in a collaborative and purpose driven environment. Must have skills: Attention to Detail – Ensuring high hygiene and safety standards are consistently met. Understanding of Food Hygiene Standards – Knowledge of cleaning best practices in a food production environment. Team Player – Ability to collaborate with colleagues to maintain a clean and safe workspace. Nice to have skills: Experience in a Hygiene or Cleaning Role – Particularly in a food production or manufacturing setting. Knowledge of COSHH Regulations – Understanding safe handling of chemicals and cleaning agents. What success looks like in this role 3 months in – You’ve rooted yourself in our business, built strong relationships, and understand our hygiene procedures inside out. 6 months in – You’ve taken ownership of hygiene tasks, identified areas for improvement, and are contributing to process efficiency. 12 months in – You’ve driven measurable impact in hygiene standards, helping shape best practices for the future.
