About the role
The Pastoral Support Worker will work in partnership with school staff and families to enable our pupils and young people to succeed in their educational placement and gain life skills in line with their EHCP.
Key responsibilities would include:
1. To compliment the delivery of the school curriculum.
2. To provide pastoral support to students in order that they can successfully access their school placement on a day-to-day basis.
3. To support students to meet the annual targets of their EHCP.
4. To liaise with clinical, teaching and support staff to share strategies for support.
5. To participate in the development and/or review of all support documentation including risk assessments, individual learning plans and opportunity plans.
6. To ensure necessary record keeping is maintained and where required to assist in the preparation of routine reports.
7. Be physically fit and energetic.
8. To provide absence cover for the class teaching support as and when required.
9. Be resilient. This role is very rewarding but does not come without its challenges.
10. Be passionate about changing the lives of young people with Learning Disabilities and Autism.
11. Be able to demonstrate empathy and patience.

You will be educated to GCSE grade C or above in Maths and English and ideally you will have experience of supporting autistic teenagers that have struggled throughout their school journey to achieve their academic and life goals; you will play a pivotal role in working with our pupils to meet their Education Health Care Plan outcomes empowering and equipping them with the tools they need to be happy, healthy and make their way in the world.
About the school
Oakham Shires School is an Independent Special School for 11-18 year olds who are Autistic and have associated diagnosis and special education needs. The school delivers a primary curriculum to secondary aged pupils who have struggled to cope in a mainstream or larger SEN educational setting and are, as a result, working below age expected stage. Pupils are taught in small class groups of 4 -5 with a high staff to pupil ratio. Pupils are supported to achieve their Outcomes within their Education Health Care Plan, develop life skills and achieve accreditations in Maths, English and Science.
