We are currently looking for a Manufacturing Engineer with experience in Automation & Robotics to join us at the Safeline Metal Detection Unit (SLUK) in Salford. The successful candidate will focus on spearheading manufacturing transformation within SLUK, with the goal of establishing the unit as the most productive, modern, and revered Producing Organization within the Product Inspection Division. Key Responsibilities: Work in close collaboration with Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Manager to build the ‘automation’ strategy and help co-ordinate SLUK ‘Operations’ transformation journey. Research, investigate new technologies with the prime focus on manufacturing transformation, via greater investment in automation delivering significant improvements in productivity and efficiency. Design and implement innovative automation and robotic systems to streamline production, improve quality and increase efficiency. Establish best practice and formulate strategies, business justification and plans to support transformation with the highest level of automation, productivity and efficiency. Present business case with justification (ROI) to Senior Leadership Team to gain project buy in and approval. Maintain effective collaboration with operational support teams, providing support as required. Supporting all new and strategic manufacturing engineering activities e.g. NPDI. Empower and engage with affected team members to increase their capabilities, knowledge and skillsets for each automation project. Global travel will be required for this role but likely to be less than 10%. What You Need: Degree qualified in an Engineering discipline. Proven experience in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent), ideally across a range of industries, products and manufacturing processes. Experience having developed and deployed a wide range of manufacturing tools and methodologies (including CI and quality) with tangible impactful results on manufacturing transformation and NPDI. Experience of Manufacturing transformation via the introduction of ‘automation’ and step improvements in new product manufacture via DfX are essential. Proven experience in building and cultivating effective partnerships with a broad range of stakeholders. LEAN / Agile / Six Sigma (ideally green belt and above). Knowledge in the latest manufacturing, inspection and test technologies and pathways. Understanding of the differentiation between Kaizen and Kaikaku from having led impactful transformational projects. Knowledge of project management disciplines and process improvement methodologies. Understanding of ERP & CAD data structures and how their alignment can or hinder production.
