Category Manager Job Type: Temporary 12-month Contract Organisation: Salford Council Pay Rate: Negotiable Salford Council are looking for a Category Manager to join their fast-paced procurement team during a crucial and exciting period as they prepare for the introduction of the new Procurement Act in early 2025. This role is pivotal in driving improvements and best practice within our category-led approach to procurement, particularly within our Children's, Public Health, and Adults directorates, as well as across the organisation. Day-to-day of the role: Lead and drive a busy pipeline of procurement activities, ensuring alignment with service requirements and commissioning needs. Deliver improved service outcomes, value for money, and enhanced social value in line with ongoing service delivery. Work closely with various stakeholders across Children Services, Public Health, and Adults to meet procurement objectives. Manage and adapt to a demanding workload, working to tight deadlines within a dynamic environment. Play a key role in the preparation and adaptation to the upcoming changes due to the new Procurement Act. Required Skills & Qualifications: Experience in a public sector environment, with a deep understanding of the commissioning cycle and procurement's role within it. CIPS level 6 qualification or equivalent experience with strong commercial skills. Proven track record of delivering improved 'Social Value' outcomes through strategic procurement planning. Ability to handle a demanding workload and meet tight deadlines. Strong interpersonal skills to manage relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
