Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art is excited to offer an opportunity for a person with a passion for food and hospitality to join our team as a Commis Chef in our Events Kitchen and Café.
Baltic is housed in a former flour mill on the historic banks of the River Tyne in Gateshead. A dramatic landmark building, the gallery hosts an ever-changing calendar of exhibitions and events.
This role assists the day-to-day running of our Events kitchen & Baltic Kitchen. We are looking for a creative, passionate, and enthusiastic Commis Chef to work with our Kitchen Manager to produce exciting food daily.
Reporting to the Kitchen Manager, you will ensure that together, we continue to meet the highest levels of guest care.
As the Commis Chef, the successful candidate will need the following attributes:
* Passion for preparing and cooking quality fresh food.
* Experience in compliance and quality control.
* Good understanding of food, health, and safety regulations.
* Experience working in a high-volume kitchen.
* Hands-on experience with various kitchen equipment.
* Ability to work under pressure.
* Excellent punctuality and communication skills.
Main Areas of Responsibility
* Day-to-day production of the event & café menus.
* Following company policies which affect your department.
* Ensuring that the department creates a professional impression to customers and team members.
* Always following procedures for food and beverage controls.
* Other duties as specified by the Kitchen Manager to reflect the needs of the business.
* Working together with the team to ensure that the business is the best it can be.
* Willingness to take on jobs to balance the team workload.
* Maintaining high standards of hygiene.
* Dealing with deliveries and stock rotation.
This position is 20 hours per week. Shifts will vary, including evenings and weekends reflecting the café/events schedule.
