Milton Keynes University Hospital is a district general hospital which operates across 3 sites in Milton Keynes. The Imaging department at MKUH provides an essential service to the trust & includes CT, MRI, ultrasound, DEXA, mammography, a general x-ray, and interventional radiology services.
Due to the expansion of services, we are currently inviting applications from enthusiastic individuals to be based primarily at Lloyds Court CDC in CMK, with a requirement to work across all MKUH sites as required. The post holder will work autonomously, performing high quality imaging & issuing reports on all DEXA examinations.
The ideal candidates must demonstrate a commitment to professional development & show a keen interest in the future of their profession & the diagnostic imaging services. They will be expected to support both the service and its staff in continuing to maintain & develop the highest standards of imaging. Main duties of the job
* To be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the DEXA services.
* To work efficiently and independently across MKUH including community diagnostic centres supporting qualified and trainee staff to deliver high quality, safe and compassionate DEXA services.
* To be responsible for and coordinate the training, learning and development for AHP's and other healthcare professionals for DEXA, ensuring service requirements are met by education provision.
* Must be competent to clinically scan patients at a high diagnostic standard, creating accurate reports on the results and discussing these, when appropriate, with the patient and referrer.
* To support section heads, operational leads and clinicians on DEXA service development/expansion and report DEXA KPI's that evidence service user and organisational needs are being met.
* To adopt a flexible working pattern to ensure support to services where extended working days (i.e., 08:00-20:00) across 7 days.
* To ensure the delivery of a high quality, safe & compassionate healthcare service, all staff are expected to act as a role model to others in all aspects of their work.
* Promote clinical governance through the implementation of high standards of clinical practice & quality assurance.
* Represent Imaging services at a range of DEXA forums & promotional events.
* Manage and maintain budgets for allocated services ensuring efficient & effective use of resources and identifying opportunities for cost savings.

Job responsibilities
Clinical:
* To maintain high standards of care by personal example and conduct, and to be a credible and competent practitioner within the clinical area. This must be in accordance with HCPC/NMC / relevant professional body Code of Professional Conduct and work within limits of competence.
* To provide a high-quality DEXA scanning service in conjunction with other practitioners and health care professionals.
Leadership & Management:
* To encourage the highest professional and technical standards in all staff using personal example and constructive supervision.
* To be responsible for leading and co-ordinating the team in an allocated area. This will involve being able to cope with frequent interruptions from both colleagues and other medical and non-medical staff of the Trust.
Communication:
* To offer advice and guidance to patients, carers and other health professionals on radiology procedures, specialised procedures and ionising and non-ionising radiation issues taking due consideration of the patients condition.
* Assess specific communication needs of individual patients. To anticipate where communication difficulties might make completion of relevant documents.
Teaching, Training & Research:
* To participate in the induction and training of new staff, assistant practitioners, and student radiographers.
* To supervise, assist and support radiographers and medical staff training in specialist areas.
* To undertake formalised assessments of staff training in the specialised area ensuring staff competency.
Professional role responsibilities:
* Practices in accordance with the professional, ethical, and legal codes of the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC), the Society of Radiographers Professional Code of Conduct and Trust and NHS protocols and guidelines.
* Maintain a commitment to professional development and a high level of technical and theoretical skills ensuring a CPD portfolio of evidence is kept up to date. To take every opportunity for self-development in extended radiographic roles.

Qualifications and knowledge
Essential
* BSc (Hons) Radiography, DCR(D) Diploma of the College of Radiographers or equivalent
* Certification in Bone Densitometry
* Post graduate qualification in DEXA reporting. If a DEXA reporting qualification is not held it will be a mandatory requirement to undertake training at Band 7 Annex 21.
* Sound knowledge of Radiation Protection regulations including IR(ME)R 2017 and IRR 17
* Radiation Protection Supervisor Course or willingness to train
* Quality Improvement, transformation, and innovation training
* Health and Care Professions Council Registration
* Considerable post qualification experience and expertise in DEXA
* Evidence of a sound level of computer literacy (MS Teams, Word, Outlook, Power Point and Excel)
* Familiarity with hospital information systems (HIS), radiology information systems (RIS) and picture archiving communications systems (PACS)
* Sound awareness of data protection, freedom of information and confidentiality issues within NHS
* Evidence of keeping informed of the current DEXA imaging techniques & practices.
* Good understanding of health and safety requirements
