Job Details About Chailey Heritage Foundation Chailey Heritage Foundation is a charity which provides education and specialist care services to children and young people with complex disabilities and health needs, which includes: An ‘outstanding’ special school ‘Home from home’ residential care for both children and young adults A Leisure Skills Centre and Hub for adults with disabilities A wheelchair accessible farm Hippotherapy Hydrotherapy Purpose of the role: To lead and inspire a small volunteer gardening team who help with the upkeep and development of the gardens enjoyed by children, young people, families, visitors and colleagues at Chailey Heritage Foundation What you will do: Lead the work of the volunteer gardening team Assign tasks and ensure volunteer gardeners are working safely Liaise with and advise Estates and the Residential bungalows on planting schemes Help make the gardens a fully immersive and sensory experience Hand weeding, hoeing, raking, staking, deadheading, tying-in plants and cutting back the flower and shrub borders Division and propagation of plants and planting Watering and feeding plants, trees and shrubs Mulching and manuring borders What you will bring: Be passionate and experienced about horticulture Able to work independently but also be part of a team Able to share your knowledge and expertise with others Motivated to enhance the gardens for the CHF community What we will provide: Be part of a friendly and supportive team Induction training and other learning relevant to your role Support through your named contact and the Volunteer Coordinator Reasonable expenses Gloves and tools Free tea and coffee Training: Safeguarding, Data Protection, Equality and diversity, Manual Handling Elective training dependent on role Location: Celebration Garden and residential gardens Time Commitment: Duration: ongoing one morning a week, ideally a Wednesday. We ask that volunteers consider the seasonal requirements of a garden and stay with us for at least 6 months if possible.
