Job overview
We have the opportunity to employ a candidate to our Ophthalmic technician role for 24.5 hours which will be 2 days 8am - 6pm and one day at 8am - 1.30pm.
The role is highly specialised with diagnostic machinery running within ophthalmology; previous knowledge is welcomed but not essential as training will be given.
Will also spend time on clinic learning how to do eye tests for patients which feed into the technician role.
Will spend time assisting the nurse injector within intravitreal injections as a circulating team member.
The salary starts at a Band 2 while training then moves up to Band 3 upon completion. Unfortunately, this role does not meet the criteria required to qualify for sponsorship.
Main duties of the job
1. Performing tests on patients following the appropriate training and sign off within the department against our competency booklets which are provided.
2. Run Visual fields lists.
3. Run OCT lists.
4. Run Optos lists.
5. Run Anterion lists.
6. Support colleagues within the team.
7. Work within clinic setting.
8. Work within injection lists as the circulator.
9. Assist patients as required.
10. Manage scans of patients on the Zeiss Visual field machine, Heidelberg OCT machine, Anterion corneal scanner and the Optos fundus camera.
11. Main Communicator with patients undergoing diagnostic tests and treatment.

Essential criteria
1. Care Certificate either upon appointment or within 12 weeks of commencement.
2. Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy (GCSE English and Maths Grade D-G).
Desirable criteria
1. Care certificate (with face to face assessments).
Knowledge, Training & Experience
Essential criteria
1. Understanding of the importance of maintaining confidentiality.
2. A genuine commitment to caring for people with visual impairment.
3. Commitment to undertake further training appropriate to the role.
4. Understanding of the importance of Health & Safety issues.
5. Previous healthcare experience.
Desirable criteria
1. Venepuncture skills (desirable) or willingness to learn.
2. Basic knowledge of the structure of the eye with a willingness to improve knowledge.
3. Knowledge of Optos.
Skills & Abilities
Essential criteria
1. To demonstrate an understanding of the importance of team working and the ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team.
2. Be able to organise own workload.
