Our open, dynamic environment ensures that everyone can make a valuable contribution and we are looking for creative Trackside PU Engineer - Systems to deliver World Championship winning Power Units year on year.
Working from our Milton Keynes factory and Trackside you will be integrated within Red Bull Powertrains. As a PU Engineer - Systems, you will play a crucial role in the development and performance optimisation of power unit systems for Red Bull Powertrains. You will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and overall performance of the power unit systems during race and test events and along with test bed operations.
Key accountabilities of our Trackside PU Engineer – Systems Role:
1. Provide technical expertise and support during Formula One race events and testing sessions. Monitor and analyse the reliability of power unit systems, troubleshoot issues, and optimise power unit parameters based on real-time data and feedback from drivers and other team members.
2. Analyse power unit telemetry data, including sensor measurements, PU performance, energy management, and fuel consumption. Identify areas for improvement, develop strategies for optimisation and provide recommendations to the design and development team.
3. Maintain accurate documentation of power unit system operations, reliability and performance data. Create technical reports and presentations to communicate findings, recommendations, and updates to the team and stakeholders.
4. Collaborate with the design and development team to contribute to the ongoing improvement of power unit systems, focusing on areas such as power unit integration, energy recovery systems, cooling systems, and fuel efficiency. This could include operating the power unit on dynamometers.
5. Collaborate with various departments within the Formula One team, including aerodynamics, vehicle dynamics, and race strategy, to ensure the seamless integration of power unit systems with the overall vehicle performance. Work closely with the race engineers and data analysts to develop and implement performance enhancement strategies.
Experience and Characteristics needed for our Trackside PU Engineer – Systems Role:
6. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (minimum 2:1) in motorsports, engineering or related discipline or equivalent qualification or experience
7. Strong knowledge and understanding of power unit systems used in Formula One racing.
8. Experience working in a trackside support role for a Formula One team or in a similar motorsport environment is desirable
9. Proficiency in data analysis and telemetry systems used in motorsports, such as Atlas, System Monitor, MATLAB, Simulink, or similar tools.
10. Ability to understand computerised power unit models created with tools such as Simulink, Stateflow or similar
11. Solid understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and energy management principles.
