About Us:
We are currently recruiting for an established HSE manager to support our site as we continue to experience a period of significant growth.
Elkes Biscuits has real heritage in both the local area and within the industry. In the early 1900s Samuel Elkes opened a confectionery shop in Uttoxeter and in 1928 a purpose-built biscuit factory was opened on the current site.
We provide retailer own label biscuits to all the major retailers including Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, Marks and Spencer, Sainsbury’s, Aldi and Lidl in addition to the Elkes brand.
We operate 24/7 so we’re looking for a team player who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and is driven to support the wider team.
About the Role:
Reporting into the General Manager, the HSE Manager will provide directional support to the Business in the Planning, Measuring, Reviewing, and auditing of Health and Safety, Environment and Occupational Health activities to meet legal requirements.
The position will be expected to set minimum standards of Health and Safety, Environment and Occupational Health practices where needed and advise management of best practices within the industry.
As HSE Manager you will act as a direct manager for an HSE Advisor & Occupational Health Technician, Site Security Supervisor, as well as providing support and guidance to the SLT team on related issues.
It is a busy, fast paced manufacturing environment offering plenty of variety and challenge. This is an excellent opportunity for an established HSE professional to make their mark on an industry leading site.
Key responsibilities will include:
* Provide advice and support to the site in the planning, measuring, reviewing, and auditing on HSE activities and Occupational Health practices to meet legal requirements, and Company Policies and procedures.
* Develop and lead the implementation of annual / three year, HSE and Occupational Health improvement strategy.
* Managing the health & safety, environment and Site Security functions, including development support for staff and site management teams to ensure delivery of objectives.
* Securing effective implementation of BPO, exec and local health, safety and environment policies, standards, and procedures.
* Lead the 2SFG annual HSE audits, ensuring continuous improvement in audit scores and robust close out of any non-conformances.
* Providing strategies to plan and organize work systems to reduce health, safety and environmental risks and recommending suitable adaptations to plant, machinery and processes.
* Contributing to develop programmes to improve working practices through the provision of information, training, and education.
* Providing management information and statistics related to area of responsibility.
* Promoting a positive H&S culture using tools such as Behavioural Safety Programme.
* Implementing and monitoring accident and incident investigation, reporting and analysis.
* Contribute to wider site continuous improvement projects outside of HSE.
About You:
To excel in this HSE Manager role you will need to demonstrate:
* Prior experience in a HSE Manager position, ideally in food production or a high volume/FMCG manufacturing environment.
* NEBOSH qualified to diploma level (CMIOSH would be preferred).
* Associate Certificate in Environmental Management preferred.
* Demonstrable experience of delivering HSE improvements and working collaboratively with other managers and stakeholders to raise standards.
* Proven experience in a leadership position within HSE.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to work with and influence and challenge colleagues at all levels.
* Experience of Environmental related issues and legislation.
