About the role
Come and join our brilliant and friendly team! As part of the growth and development of our Clinical Psychology provision, we are looking for highly motivated clinical psychology lecturers to join us in delivering our postgraduate programme.
The University of Staffordshire Professional Doctorate in Clinical Psychology is delivered in partnership with local clinical psychologists in Shropshire and Staffordshire. The over-arching framework for the programme is the impact of Society and Context on psychological well-being and there is an emphasis on prevention, early intervention, innovative practice, and the importance of critical and contextual thinking. Our service user and carer group has a central role in all aspects of programme delivery. As a programme we are committed to fostering an inclusive culture. Applications are sought from enthusiastic, team-orientated and flexible individuals. Our trainee cohorts remain comparatively small at an intake of 24 per year. This means we prioritise working closely and supportively with both colleagues and our trainees.
Programme staff are employed by the University and are responsible to the relevant Director for their strand of work.
Main Responsibilities
Clinical Tutor role
We are looking for post holders to contribute to the clinical experience element of training as Clinical Tutors. Post holders will support placement planning and review processes, regional supervisor training in collaboration with other W. Midlands programmes, and clinical tutoring tasks. Clinical tutors also support the core business of the programme, including acting as an academic mentor to trainees, supervising research, contributing to teaching and clinical skills sessions, and selection processes and viva examinations. To meet current gaps in our team, experience of working with older adults and/or neuropsychology would be beneficial.
Research Tutor role
We are looking for post holders to contribute to the research strand of training as Research Tutors. We are keen to attract candidates with a strong background or interest/track record in research and passion for supporting trainee research and developing the evidence base for our profession. Post holders will support with teaching and assessment on research modules, supervise several trainee doctoral research projects per year and provide academic mentoring to trainees. There is an expectation that the post-holder will contribute to other routine programme requirements as required. Previous experience of undertaking independent research, supervising research in HE and a track record of publications is desirable.
For both roles, applicants should have demonstrable experience of working post-qualification (minimum of two years) and have an enthusiasm for supporting the training and personal and professional development of our next generation of Clinical Psychologists. Previous experience of working on a clinical psychology training programme and/or in Higher Education is desirable. However, a priority is to appoint staff with a shared value-base and we will mentor the right people in their transition into these roles.
Applicants with suitable experience can be considered for either vacancy. Please specify on your application if you would like to be considered for a specific role or both roles.
For an informal discussion about either role, please contact Dr Yvonne Melia at yvonne.melia@staffs.ac.uk
