Job Description:
We are currently in a close partnership with a school in Battle who are looking for Teaching Assistants to help support their SEN students.
Working with young people can be a rewarding but challenging experience that requires patience, adaptability, and a can-do attitude.
The role of the SEND Teaching & Support Assistant is to support young people with identified Special Educational Needs or disabilities. You will aid in removing barriers impacting a young person's ability to access the curriculum, engage in learning, and enable them to reach their full potential.
Experience working with young people would be beneficial, but we welcome applications from candidates with a background in supporting those with additional needs or care work.
This is an ideal opportunity to progress your career, especially if you want to make a change and have a desire to work with and improve the outcomes of young people.
About the School:
The school has a proven track record of success with learners on the Autistic Spectrum, including those with complex needs, and caters to students from ages 5 to 16, with Post 16 courses available up to age 21. The school has two sites in the East Sussex countryside, each with its own mini-farm, small animal area, and horticultural pods.
It admits up to fifty students across both sites, complemented by a large qualified and experienced staff team. This high staff-to-student ratio and our use of a range of therapies within our behaviour management, along with close collaboration with our Occupational Therapist and SALT, is our strength and the main reason for our success with students who have struggled in other academic environments.
A SEND Teaching & Support Assistant will:
1. Build and maintain successful relationships with young people.
2. Support a named pupil or a group of students in traditional and non-traditional learning environments.
3. Offer a supportive approach in a role-modelling/mentoring capacity.
4. Assist learners with their physical, personal care, or medical needs, promoting independence.
5. Implement specific educational programmes for young people.
6. Deliver activities to small groups of identified young people.
7. Record observations on young people's behaviour and progress.
8. Have experience with behaviour that challenges.
We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in settings such as youth offending services, emergency services, residential care homes, youth services, creative industries, sports coaching, or graduates of Drama, Psychology, or Sports Studies.
The Protocol Education SEND Team excels at looking after individuals who work with us. We are committed to your long-term success and want you to progress, reach your full potential, and be happy in your work.
Protocol Education adheres to the following requirements for its Support Workers and Teachers:
