York Carers Centre is an independent charity that helps unpaid carers in York access the support they need. We currently have a rewarding opportunity for a positive committed individual who has genuine interest in using their experience and skills to empower carers and make a positive difference to their lives.
We are looking for a passionate and skilled Advice Worker to support carers in accessing their rights, entitlements and essential services. This post requires a confident practitioner with experience of working collaboratively with a range of agencies and professionals, and with the skills to challenge constructively to benefit carers.
The postholder will be required to deliver information, advice and support through telephone calls and outreach appointments including home visits. It will be necessary for the Advice Worker to attend a variety of meetings advocating on behalf of carers and supporting carers to navigate services.
We are looking for an individual who can work under pressure, prioritise and manage own workload with minimum supervision, and maintain a working knowledge of current information, policies and legislation that could affect carers. Facilitation and presentation skills will be required to deliver one-off workshops and informal training events.
The role will involve participating in a weekly evening telephone Advice Line for carers on a rota basis.
