Overview
A role within the Group Transport sector of Wincanton you will be instrumental in providing financial insights, analysis and support across all contracts. The role will involve being the site accountant for our newly opened Nottingham haulage subcontractor centre, with key business partners being the Operations and General Manager in addition to the wider planning team. Priorities may vary as business dictates but will heavily focus around the EyeQ implementation project and weekly external subcontracted haulage reporting responsibilities.
The role will initially report to the Revenue Accountant (Revenue & subcon team leader) for a period of training and development expected to be up to c6 months. Subject to successful role progression and anticipated work demands the candidate will then progress to reporting into the Commercial Finance Manager - Group Transport. This is a progressive role with the opportunity to grow alongside the EyeQ implementation.
The role is hybrid with the requirement to be onsite 2 to 3 days per week.
How will you contribute?
* Support the Group Transport roll out of the online freight trading portal EyeQ:
o Work alongside the Nottingham operations project team to provide general commercial and implementation support to include attendance of team meetings in person and remotely.
o Meeting financial reporting needs to include dashboard creation and production to add trading insight via KPI identification and tracking.
o Work alongside the commercial finance team to aid platform revenue growth and cost of investment recovery.
o Assist in the development and implementation of financial controls and processes with respect to the integration of EyeQ into existing reporting processes alongside the established Ortec traffic management system.
o Other expectations can be changeable as the project is rolled out prior to the establishment of "business as usual" trading.
* Collaborate with the operations planning and administration team to ensure hauliers are paid within agreed credit terms by specifically focusing on resolution of aged accounts payable queries to ensure they are resolved in a timely manner to protect & maintain haulier relationships.
* Prepare financial reports and dashboards to provide insights into subcon centre performance and profitability.
* Conduct regular analysis of metrics, costs and revenues associated with 3PL and 4PL services.
* Reporting responsibilities include:
o Goods received not invoiced (GRNI) aged accrual balance sheet ownership & reconciliations for all group transport contracts, inclusive of internal trading claim settlements.
o Collaborate with other finance team members to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, inclusive of providing insightful variance analysis.
o Aid application of TMS system and ensure haulier rates are applied within commercial agreed terms for profit maximisation.
o Month end finance ledger journals and close within strict reporting deadlines and a targeted improvement in working days.
o Aid implementation of best working practice, for example a standardised internal rate card & other ad hoc projects as business demands.
o Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations as required.
* Provide support for forecasting and budgeting activities related to new customer initiatives.
What will you bring?
* A part qualified accountant (CIMA, ACA, ACCA), with a desire to continue and complete studies while in the role.
* Transport/Logistics or Heavy Industry experience while working alongside an operations team would be advantageous but not essential.
* Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
* Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
* Demonstrate drive, energy, and a commitment to creating best practice.
* Be proactive, inquisitive with a passion for challenging teams to drive performance.
* Be a confident communicator as the sole on-site accountant to represent finance & support, challenge and guide your operations colleagues.
* Must be flexible and respond positively and accurately to internal and external customer requests.
* Excellent customer relationship skills with the ability to develop good working relationships at all levels.
* Have excellent PC skills and be able to understand and harness IT and systems to benefit the operation.
* Able to travel across sites as required on occasion.
