Our growing Risk Advisory department is made up of a diverse group of over 140 specialists, based out of our hubs across Loughborough, Stockport, London, Bristol, Edinburgh and Aberdeen Within this, our dedicated Civil (Structural and Geotechnical) Engineering Section, delivers specialist advisory services such as structural and geotechnical analysis, design and design appraisal, fitness for service assessments, life extension assessment and inspection and risk management. This requires a multi-disciplinary approach, working alongside discipline experts drawn from other teams across Energy Systems. Our Geotechnics Team is a long-standing trusted advisor to the energy industry and provides a wide range of services such as geotechnical analysis and design and design appraisals, safety and integrity engineering and risk management to the energy industry. In the UK gas transmission and distribution sector, we also provide the Competent Design Authority (CDA) services. We are also increasingly active in advising our clients in the hydrogen, Carbon Capture and Renewable Sectors. This typically involves structural analysis and design, design appraisal and/or owners engineer role. About the role: As a specialist in onshore geotechnical engineering you’ll be responsible for undertaking a combination of delivery of technical work with our clients, leading and supporting the project management of these scopes of work and also contributing to the further growth and development of our team through business development and mentoring activities. You will have the opportunity to interface with a wide range of disciplines across DNV, and work with a broad range of clients including, private developers, local governments, design consultancies and construction contractors. Typical projects include geotechnical analysis, design and appraisals of 3rd party designs that are interfacing with or being constructed adjacent to onshore gas infrastructure within the UK. Your expertise will be invaluable in helping shape our team's approach to creating innovative solutions for our clients, defining our future strategy, and enhancing our capabilities to identify opportunities for wider integration of our services. You’ll also work closely with our business development team, contributing to winning new business with existing and potential clients, developing proposals, bidding for contracts, attending client meetings and building relationships with key stakeholders. This is a varied role, so you’ll be stretched, but always supported, surrounded by people who want you to thrive, develop and embrace new challenges. You will be expected to: Prepare bid documentation to ensure bids are delivered within agreed timescales and to clients’ expectations. Manage projects to ensure that the clients’ scope is delivered within the timeframe, costs and agreed quality standards in accordance with the DNV management system. Ability to work to tight deadlines. Ensure that site visits, project reports/drawings and other forms of documentation are delivered to the high standards expected by our client. Integrated/team working – able to collaborate effectively across internal departments and globally within DNV to achieve swift and co-ordinated delivery of results. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to be able to interface with clients and assist in developing new business opportunities, along with: Degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering or similar related discipline. Strong experience gained within either the Energy Industry (or similar technical/engineering industry). Experience and ability of working with British Standards and Highway Standards relating to civil engineering and construction aspects of the UK onshore gas industry (in particular Eurocode 7 and DMRB). Full driving license. Flexibility to travel to client sites within the UK. Desirable Attributes: A Chartered Engineer with some years of post-chartered experience, including knowledge of construction activities. Experience and ability of working with Ground Movement Assessments (GMA), Soil/Pipeline Interaction Analysis (SPIA) and Foundation Design. Knowledge and Experience of Health and Safety including CDM Regulations 2015 and the ability to write method statements and undertake Risk Assessments. Experience and ability of working with ‘Plaxis 2D/3D’ and ‘Ple4Win’. Holder of a valid and up to date ‘CSCS’ card. Please note that this is UK based position.
