The role: We are looking for a CMI Manager to join our Business Support team (part of our Operations function). You will lead on conflicts of interest and anti-money laundering (AML) compliance activity within our centralised client matter inception (CMI) team. A key part of this role will be developing and implementing policies and procedures to support efficiency and effectiveness of business support services. You will have a unique opportunity to engage and influence key stakeholders, including customers and suppliers.
This role is suitable for someone with a passion for innovation, continuous improvement and excellent customer service. You will work with our Group Operations Director and Risk & Compliance team to mitigate risks effectively. You will act as a mentor to our CMI team and be responsible for training and development of our people ensuring that resources are deployed effectively. You will have responsibility for managing budgets and expenditure within the team.
What you will be doing:
* Collaborating with legal teams to resolve conflicts and implement appropriate risk management measures.
* Conducting comprehensive conflict checks to identify and assess whether a client, own interest or confidentiality conflict exists in a new or existing matter.
* Supporting the CMI team to conduct thorough due diligence checks (including electronic searches), ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal protocols.
* Assessing client due diligence (CDD) and enhanced due diligence (EDD) requirements and ongoing monitoring requirements.
* Conducting EDD on high-risk clients and transactions to support with identifying and preventing money-laundering activities.
* Supplying appropriate CDD information to our legal teams alongside appropriate guidance.
* Conducting searches, analysis and draft risk assessments and escalating concerns and complex matters to the Risk & Compliance team.
* Updating and implementing policies, procedures and processes to promote the efficiency and effectiveness of business support services.
* Maintaining consistent, standardised working practices.
* Identifying opportunities for positive change and managing delivery of change projects to agreed timescales and parameters.
* Recommending and implementing new technology solutions to improve operations and support the goals of the business.
* Aligning a cross-functional team of technical and professionals under a single plan, building consensus and alignment on responsibilities, timing, and requirements.
* Working hand in hand with the IT team on the technical implementation, ensuring alignment of technical requirements, business use cases, on boarding, and the employee experience.
* Determining specific, measurable, achievable key performance indicators (KPIs) and goals to inform and update senior leadership, capture tangible and intangible metrics, and convey those to senior level executives.
* Working with internal communications teams to create communications plans, build user education programmes, and maintain consistent messaging aligned with the anticipated values.
* Leading adoption and engagement efforts; monitoring and adjusting strategy as necessary.

What you will need:
* Educated to degree level or equivalent.
* A minimum of three years’ experience within a CMI team in a large law firm.
* In depth understanding of conflict of interest rules and AML regulations and requirements.
* In depth knowledge and understanding of SRA client conflict rules.
* A detail-oriented approach, with a focus on accuracy and quality in compliance-related tasks.
* Able to role model and support development with an understanding of a CMI team.
* Ability to design and implement risk management activities, including business wide and tailored team level training programmes.
* Able to communicate with people at all levels of the business, including senior management.
* Adaptable and proactive, comfortable in a changing environment.
* Ability to map ‘as is and ‘to be’ processes and able to influence stakeholders to articulate future possibilities and relate these to business change activities.
* Experience of working with and managing disparate teams across multiple locations to deliver common goals.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to make informed decisions based on data.
