Job Description Project Head of Health and Safety (Civil Engineering) £90,000-£100,000 plus package Central London A leading civil engineering company with a reputation for delivering major projects across the United Kingdom is seeking a talented HSE professional to take the lead on a flagship site in London. As the Project Head of Health and Safety, you will take charge of the health and safety efforts across the programme. You will provide direction, leadership, and oversight to ensure the implementation of robust health and safety strategies and programs, while fostering a safety-first culture throughout the project lifecycle. Key Responsibilities: Develop and implement comprehensive health and safety policies, procedures, and programs tailored to the requirements of the project, ensuring alignment with UK legislation and industry best practices. Lead and manage a team of health and safety professionals, providing direction, guidance, and support to ensure the highest standards of health and safety are maintained across all project activities. Conduct thorough risk assessments and hazard analyses, collaborating with project teams to develop and implement effective control measures to mitigate risks and enhance the safety of our workforce. Oversee the investigation of incidents, accidents, and near misses, analyzing root causes and trends to develop proactive measures and recommendations for prevention. Liaise with project stakeholders, including regulatory authorities, subcontractors, and community representatives, to promote a culture of health and safety excellence and to address any related concerns or issues. Monitor and analyze health and safety performance metrics and trends, preparing and presenting reports to senior management to drive informed decision-making and continuous improvement initiatives. Stay abreast of emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in health and safety management, incorporating relevant advancements into our project strategies and programs. Qualifications: Diploma level qualification Chartered Membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH) or equivalent professional accreditation preferred. Proven leadership experience in health and safety management In-depth knowledge of UK health and safety legislation, regulations, and standards, with the ability to interpret and apply them effectively in a construction environment. Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels to drive a positive safety culture. Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive and data-driven approach to identifying and addressing health and safety risks and opportunities. Proficiency in MS Office and other relevant software applications.
