This is an exciting opportunity to influence HMRC's technical future. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the HMRC Modern Workplace consolidated infrastructure strategy aligns with both business and technology goals. They will also ensure that product and platform roadmaps are in sync with this strategy to effectively deliver the vision.
As the Lead Technical Architect, you will:
* Be the focal point for Workplace IT strategy development, collaborating with Enterprise Architecture teams.
* Provide strategic guidance for the Strategic Review process, prioritising activities to drive the success of the Modern Workplace.
* Play a key role in shaping the direction of HMRC's infrastructure and technology services.
Job description
As part of the Modern Workplace Technical Services leadership team, this role involves engaging at a strategic level to:
* Translate organisational objectives into actionable technical strategies.
* Influence policy and lead business change initiatives.
* Ensure the team develops and maintains a strong Architecture capability by empowering and supporting staff to achieve high performance.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead the development of technical capability within the Modern Workplace Platform team, enhancing architectural and engineering skills to deliver first-class services.
* Address the challenge of key resource turnover due to retirements, bridging the skills gap.
* Lead strategy and roadmap planning to transition away from legacy infrastructure services towards a Modern Workplace infrastructure.
* This shift will help reduce ongoing technical risk and debt while ensuring HMRC teams are ready for future hybrid working practices.
* Build business cases to secure funding for HMRC infrastructure transformation programs that support the Modern Workplace initiative.

We are looking for a highly skilled leader who is:
* Credible, influential, and a team player with a proven track record in delivering customer-focused technology change.
* Self-motivated, a confident communicator with excellent interpersonal skills.
* Committed to continuous improvement in both personal and team performance.
Essential Criteria:
* Strategic alignment of infrastructure, service design, and integration to meet the evolving business needs and direction.
* Proven consultancy experience in evaluating and recommending emerging technologies and driving benefits from these technologies.
* Ability to articulate technical solutions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Desirable Criteria:
* Aiming to achieve professional IT qualifications such as TOGAF or CITP within the first 12 months of employment.
* Experience working in an agile environment, with familiarity in agile methodologies such as DevOps, TDD, Scrum, and Kanban.
