Job Title: Domiciliary Health Care Assistant
Contract: Fulltime, Parttime, Temporary
Job Overview:
As a Domiciliary Health Care Assistant, you will provide clients with personal care and support in their homes. This includes assisting with daily living tasks, promoting independence, and maintaining the client's dignity while ensuring their safety and well-being. You will work as part of a team to deliver compassionate, high-quality care tailored to individual needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Personal Care: Assist with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and oral hygiene.
- Medication Support: Assist clients in taking prescribed medications, as directed by healthcare professionals.
Mobility Assistance: Help clients walk, transfer (e.g., from bed to chair), and use mobility aids.
- Household Support: Help with light housekeeping, such as cleaning, laundry, meal preparation, and shopping for groceries.
- Companionship: Provide emotional support and engage in social activities to reduce loneliness and improve mental well-being.
- Health Monitoring: Observe and report any changes in the client’s health or condition to healthcare professionals or family members.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of care provided, including any incidents, changes in health, and client preferences.
- Respect Privacy and Dignity: Always respect the privacy, confidentiality, and dignity of the client and family members.
- Promote Independence: Encourage and assist the client to carry out tasks on their own, fostering independence where possible.
- Liaison: Communicate effectively with family members, social workers, and other healthcare professionals involved in the client’s care.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience: Previous experience in a healthcare or caregiving role is often preferred, but not always required.
- Training: Completion of relevant training or certification in caregiving or health care is desirable (e.g., Care Certificate, NVQ in Health and Social Care).
- Compassion: A genuine desire to help others and provide compassionate care.
- Communication: Strong communication skills for interacting with clients, their families, and other care professionals.
- Reliability: Dependable and punctual, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical Fitness: Ability to assist with lifting and mobility tasks, as well as perform tasks like cleaning and cooking.
- Flexibility: Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Working Conditions:
- Location: Care is provided in the client's home and community, which may vary from urban to rural settings.
- Hours: Hours can vary, and shifts may include weekends, evenings, and public holidays.
- Travel: Some roles may require travel between multiple client homes, which may require a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
