This is a wonderful opportunity to join a supportive family where you can make a real difference to MSAM’s life by helping to maximise his opportunities and promoting his independence. If you have an interest in sports (particularly cricket), physiotherapy, promoting independent living, getting involved in activities and having fun, and you are able to communicate effectively, with an ability to work with patience, tact, understanding, warmth and compassion, then this could be the ideal role for you.
MSAM is a friendly, active young man who enjoys playing cricket for his local team amongst many other activities. His family are very supportive and important to him, as are his religious beliefs and interests. He enjoys playing board games and meeting new people. With support he is motivated to continue to learn academic skills and to access part time courses along with working as a volunteer one day a week. He hopes to increase these hours as time progresses. MSAM enjoys learning to cook and to look after himself but does like some space at times to quietly reflect. He cannot be left alone for his own safety and will require supervision at all times whilst respecting his privacy and personal space.
MSAM born in, sustained a brain injury at the age of 3 and has learning difficulties, he walks with a limp and has difficulty using his right arm. He is mostly self-caring but does require help with practical tasks and supervision. He has occasional absence-type seizures and visual impairment.
You will be taking direction from MSAM’s parents, therapists and the Case Manager to ensure that MSAM receives all the support he needs. Your role will include accompanying and ensure MSAM’s safety in the community and around the home as well as supporting him to pursue his goals.
This job will suit someone who is calm, proactive, and able to bring lots of enthusiasm to the role, whilst working within a family home setting, respecting cultural beliefs and practices.
Some flexibility to potentially spend occasional nights away to accompany MSAM at his home and/or on holidays in the future is desirable.
