Job Title: Senior Engineer Materials Technology - Metallurgy Location: Barrow-in-Furness - on-site Salary: From £34,042 - depending on skills and experience What you'll be doing: Supporting the delivery of authoritative metallurgical advice and guidance to: - all functions, in particular Operations, Engineering and Supply Chain, on emergent issues arising during submarine build, commissioning and in-service - the wider BAES community, including facilities/ infrastructure, Naval Ships and Global Combat Systems - Submarine design engineering teams to ensure the use of appropriate materials, processes and the management of corrosion Conducting reviews of supplier technical and special processes related to metallurgy, corrosion prevention and welding engineering Conducting and reporting of metallurgical investigations and research, including the preparation of samples, safe and correct use of laboratory and workshop equipment, conduct of analysis and the preparation of test results and technical reports Contributing to the technical evaluation of new materials and manufacturing processes Supporting weld engineers in the assessment of pipe welds, structural welds and cladding, including preparation and mechanical testing of samples Contributing to the review and maintenance of relevant Process Instructions, Workmanship Standards, Operating Procedures and Risk Assessments Your skills and experiences: Qualified to degree level (BEng/ BSc) in metallurgy or materials science Knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy Knowledge of metal forming and processing Knowledge of corrosion mechanisms and prevention Experience of working within a team of metallurgists and/ or welding engineers Experience in the development and maintenance of metallurgical related workmanship Standards and Process Instructions Experience in conducting research and technical investigations Benefits: You'll receive benefits including a competitive pension scheme, enhanced annual leave allowance and a Company contributed Share Incentive Plan. The Materials Technology team: The team consists of various technical levels, as a Senior Engineer you will be joining a team that comprises of over 60 specialists of Metallurgical, Polymer, Welding and materials backgrounds. You will support with the delivery of the Submarines (SSNR, Dreadnought, Astute). Our aim is to increase our headcount to accommodate the future demand and need of the customer.
