Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist (RRP Applicable)
This is a well-established post on Oak ward - 15-bed medium secure male only inpatient ward, which has become available due to service reconfiguration. The post holder will provide inpatient consultant / RC responsibilities to 5 male patients on medium secure ward at the Hellingly Centre, East Sussex.
Assessment of patients referred from various sources including LSU, PICU, prison services, general adult services, CAMHS, KSS provider collaborative for suitability of admission to MSU. Such referrals come through single-point of access via weekly referrals meeting.
The post holder will work alongside 1.0WTE consultant on Oak ward.
This job attracts a Recruitment and Retention payment of £25,000, in addition to (up to) £8000 relocation allowance. The RRP payment is paid in the following instalments:
* £5000 payment paid on appointment
* £5000 retention payment paid at 12 month anniversary of employment
* £6500 retention payment paid at 30 month anniversary of employment
* £8500 retention payment paid at 48 month anniversary of employment
The Recruitment and Retention payment is pro rata for part time employees.
Main duties of the job
The post holder works collaboratively with inpatient secure hospital sites at Hellingly and Chichester Centre, and FOLS teams.
The main responsibilities are inpatient care to a maximum of 5 male patients on Medium Secure Ward at the Hellingly Centre.
Each ward has an effective multidisciplinary team with senior nurses (including two nurse consultants, one on each site), Social Workers, Psychologists, and OTs within each team and specialist therapists working across the service.
To work closely with the matron and other lead professionals to provide clinical leadership to the ward team as the ward-based Consultant Psychiatrist and ensure safe, supportive care within the Medium Secure Services.
To participate in ensuring the weekly referrals meeting has relevant information and feedback and to attend peer supervision meetings.
The Trust is a training trust and trainee medical staff are placed within the Hellingly Centre and across the service. CT1-3/ST4-6 support therefore is available when trainees are placed.

* Working closely with the matron and other lead professionals to provide clinical leadership to the ward team.
* Participating in ensuring the weekly referrals meeting has relevant information and feedback.
* Maintaining and complying with Good medical practice guidance of GMC.
* Providing a high quality of specialist assessment, treatment and care.
* Providing clinical advice and liaison, as required, in other parts of the service.
* Operating within guidelines, policies and procedures relevant to the post.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
* Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
* Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
* Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.
* Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
* Approved under S12 OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
* CCT in Forensic Psychiatry.
Clinical knowledge, skills and experience
* Excellent knowledge in specialty.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
* Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service.
