This role involves undertaking electrical work and leading a team to support the Electrical Supervisor in ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation. The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of housing and non-housing electrical repairs and works, ensuring compliance with contract conditions and current electrical regulations, as well as delivering excellent services to customers.
As an Electrical Chargehand, you will ensure high-quality service delivery within the works undertaken. You will support your line manager by assisting with the day-to-day planning and allocation of employees, equipment, and materials, maintaining supervision of the workforce in line with NICEIC guidelines, and making routine site inspections to assess work requirements and check the quality of work. You will also provide instruction and supervision to operatives, apprentices, and trainees, and effectively cover for supervisor or surveyor roles in other areas of the business. Compliance with NCSL policies, procedures, and health and safety guidelines is essential.
The ideal candidate will possess relevant certificated qualifications or be part-qualified with proven relevant work experience. Knowledge of good practice relating to health and safety regulations, City & Guilds 2382 - 18th Edition Electrical Regulations, City & Guilds 2391 - Test & Inspection Qualification or equivalent, City & Guilds Electrical Qualifications or equivalent recognised apprenticeship, and AM2 Qualification are essential. IOSH Managing Safely is desirable. Experience in leading a small team, extensive experience in domestic and/or commercial electrical trade, and previous experience working within social housing properties are required. The ability to operate a personal digital assistant (PDA) handheld device or similar and holding NICIEC QS status within the last two years are also essential.
Strong verbal communication skills, basic PC usage, the ability to work unsupervised and as part of a team, interpret electrical schematic diagrams, reports, and drawings, work at height or in confined spaces, and work on your own initiative when carrying out inspection and supervision works are necessary. The ability to work to a high standard under pressure to meet target dates, a willingness to undertake additional training, and being a decision-maker are also required. Flexibility to undertake out-of-hours call-outs where the supervisor is absent, a full UK driving licence, and a willingness to be clean-shaven to comply with face-fit testing if required for the role are essential.
