This is a unique opportunity to work as a psychiatric nurse specialist as part of a multi-disciplinary team for the All Wales Psychiatric Genomics Service. The service is the first of its kind in the UK and is made up of Psychiatrists, a Clinical Geneticist, a Genetic Counsellor and Administrators. We are looking for an experienced Registered Mental Health Nurse, preferably with adult mental health or learning disability experience, to join our team. You will be responsible for contributing to the development and expansion of the psychiatric genomics service and providing person-centred support and signposting to co-ordinate safe and effective care for patients. Whilst this service is based in Cardiff, we support patients throughout Wales through in-person and virtual clinics.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
1. Communicate and liaise effectively with mental health services throughout Wales to arrange and confirm ongoing pathways of care and provide written communication and referral documentation as required.
2. Identify deteriorating patients and take the appropriate action by liaising with the multi-disciplinary team and external care providers as appropriate.
3. Provide good nursing practice ensuring that practices are in accordance with trust policies, and NMC guidelines and standards of proficiency.
4. Use professional judgement to intercede and act as advocate for patients to ensure a patient-focused approach to the delivery of care.
5. Identifying and signposting to support services.
6. Use excellent communication skills with a flexible approach.
7. To report on and contribute to the monitoring, evaluation and audit, on the performance and clinical practice of the service.
8. Support patients with research participation.
9. Work with administrative staff to coordinate the clinic.
10. Developing clinic resources.
11. Participation in teaching and training.
