The Institute hosts more than 200 events each year, with our annual flagship event, Global Conference, bringing together 4,500+ participants from around the world, featuring more than 900+ speakers throughout 200+ sessions over the course of the event.
About the Position
The Milken Institute seeks an Associate Director of Communications focused on Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) to join the London office. The Associate Director will lead the development of a media strategy for Europe, including media participation at the annual Middle East and Africa Summit, in partnership with the Executive Director, Marketing and Communications. The candidate will work closely with the policy team to develop strategies to maximize the impact of their work across the continent as relevant and amplify the visibility of our year-round programming.
Successful candidates will apply their significant communications and media expertise and experience, as well as knowledge of the UK, Europe and Middle East communications landscape, to amplify the visibility of our work in these regions. The ideal candidate will be a strong writer, highly organized, have exceptional attention to detail, a network of contacts across the media landscape, and exercise creativity in supporting the Institute’s work and developing its reputation as a trusted, non-partisan, international think tank.
Responsibilities
* Work collaboratively with stakeholders at all levels and be a true team player, building a network of allies across an international organization.
* Craft and implement strategic communications plans aligned with the overall market strategy.
* Build, manage, and strengthen relationships with key journalists, editors, and influencers, particularly across Europe, the Middle East and Africa; areas of focus include improving health outcomes, economic resilience, geopolitics, infrastructure financing, AI and regulatory frameworks.
* Build a database of journalists in key policy areas, both at the national and trade press level, to maximize coverage of Institute outputs.
* Ability to strategize and execute non-media communications tactics to disseminate our work.
* Develop high-quality press releases, op-eds, media pitches, Q&As, and briefing materials.
* Serve as the primary media relations advisor for key workstreams, providing strategic insight to enhance visibility and reputation.
* Support the planning and execution of press events, media tours, and campaigns to engage with target audiences.
* Experience with event media relations including pre-event pitching, onsite press management, suggesting media moderators and identifying potential media partnerships.
* Monitor and evaluate media coverage, providing colleagues with actionable insights through reports and analysis.
Qualifications
* 8-10 years of experience in media relations, corporate communications, or public relations, with some tenure at a communications/PR firm or working in government communications.
* Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with journalists and media outlets. Proven track record of securing high-impact media coverage across a variety of platforms (print, broadcast, online, non-traditional).
* Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills. Extensive experience in writing op-eds and news briefs.
* Experience in crisis management and the ability to act as a trusted media advisor during sensitive situations.
* Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
* Collaborative mindset with experience leading and mentoring teams.
* A proactive, results-oriented approach with a deep understanding of the media landscape.
Preferred Qualities:
* Experience in a global or multinational organization.
* Knowledge of the EMEA media landscape and current trends.
* Proven track record of success in communications and media initiatives from previous positions.
Requirements:
* Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French, German or Arabic would be a plus.
* Ability to work full-time and embrace a hybrid work environment, including three days a week from the Milken Institute office in Central London.
* Willingness to work across time zones and cultures.
Working Conditions & Travel Requirements
This position will work in a professional office environment. This person will also be required to travel occasionally to other offices and/or venues to assist with events as needed, requiring occasional work outside of traditional hours. International along with domestic travel is possible. Additionally, this position requires interacting virtually on a regular basis with Milken Institute staff based in other locations in the United States and around the world.

This position will be working a hybrid model, where you will be expected to report to the London office location 3-days per week (Tuesday - Thursday), this is subject to change.
