Job Role: Artistic Director
Reporting to: Board of Directors
Salary: £42,415 per annum
Contract: Fixed Term – 12 months
Hours: 35 hours per week (with flexibility required, including some evenings and weekends).
Time off in lieu (TOIL) is available for additional hours worked.
Annual Leave: 28 days plus 8 public holidays (pro rata), with 10 days fixed for office closure during Christmas and New Year.
Location: Hybrid working from our office in Barmulloch, Glasgow.

What will you do as Artistic Director?
As the Artistic Director at Toonspeak in Glasgow, you will lead the creative vision and artistic direction of the organisation. Your role will involve shaping and overseeing our theatre and performance programmes, ensuring they are innovative, inclusive, and aligned with Toonspeak's mission to empower young people through the arts. Additionally, you will play a key role in strategic planning, contributing to the growth and evolution of our artistic offerings and ensuring they resonate with and inspire our community.
Key Responsibilities
* Strategic Leadership: Lead Toonspeak’s 2025 activities, driving the delivery of Business and Operational Plans with a focus on inclusivity, diversity, and sustainability.
* Advocacy and Representation: Represent Toonspeak at regional and national levels, building key relationships with funders and partners to promote youth-led arts.
* Artistic Programming: Oversee the creative direction, ensuring programmes align with Toonspeak’s Inspire, Transform, and Progress strands, and deliver high-quality projects.
* Operations and Management: Lead staff, managing operations, marketing, and community engagement. Ensure smooth delivery across all programme areas.
* Compliance and Governance: Ensure compliance with HR, GDPR, and Health and Safety regulations. Support the Board with strategic and financial oversight.
* Finance and Fundraising: Manage budgets and develop diverse fundraising strategies to ensure financial stability and maintain strong funder relationships.
What do we need from you?
First and foremost, you should possess a robust background in the arts, with extensive experience in theatre or performance, and a proven track record of developing and leading innovative artistic projects. The Artistic Director role requires a passionate, visionary leader who is committed to using the arts as a tool for positive change, with the skills and experience to drive artistic excellence and make a lasting impact on young people in Glasgow and beyond.
Skills and Experience
* Leadership: Demonstrated experience in leading an arts organisation or programme, including effective staff management and team leadership.
* Strategic Thinking: Expertise in developing and implementing long-term plans with a focus on inclusivity, diversity, and sustainability.
* Arts Experience: Extensive background in theatre or youth arts, with a strong network within the creative sector.
* Programme Management: Proven ability in developing, delivering, and evaluating creative projects, including budget management.
* Financial Acumen: Skilled in managing budgets, forecasting, and collaborating with Board Members to ensure financial stability.
* Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, adept at engaging with funders, partners, and the wider community.
* Sector Knowledge: Familiarity with the Scottish arts and community development sectors and understanding of compliance and governance requirements for non-profit organisations.
* Community Engagement: Experience working with youth-led or community-based arts initiatives.
