Main duties of the job
We are looking for a skilled and versatile Consultant Intensivist, with good inter-personal skills, to join this large, friendly and supportive department. The GICU team is fully integrated with the Anaesthetic department, and a majority of GICU Consultants also deliver Anaesthetic sessions.
UHS is the largest centre for Intensive Care on the South Coast and has a regional responsibility for delivery of specialist care, education and Research. The Unit achieves very high quality ICNARC data and some of the best outcomes nationally from wave 1 of the SARS-Covid19 pandemic.
The General ICU has been recently completely rebuilt, and this state-of-the-art facility opened in November 2020. The quality of the environment in the new unit is second to none and provides a greatly enhanced GICU environment to the benefit of both staff and patients.

UHS is the Major Trauma Centre for the region. UHS has extensive Research facilities including the Welcome Clinical Research and the Biomedical Research Unit, and the GICU team plays a major part in relevant and national Research agendas.
You will be joining a cohesive team who are working together to deliver high quality care for patients in these difficult and uncertain times. We are concerned for the well-being of our Consultants and attention is paid to work life balance in the detailed construction of job plans. Although we are a large department overall, we are able to offer a supportive environment for work. There is a culture of collaboration and co-operation across the Department. We are passionate about patient care and believe that is best achieved by well supported staff.

Person specification
Qualifications, Training & Experience
* Dual ICM accreditation – ie. FFICM, DICM, EDIC or equivalent
* GMC registration with a licence to practise
* At least 2 years work in the NHS or Ireland at minimum of Speciality Trainee level
* Wide clinical experience
* Teaching experience
* Evidence of participation in Audit
* Post graduate medical qualification (eg MRCP), or other higher certificates, eg MSc, Cert Ed, completed or currently in progress.
* Focussed Intensive Care Echo (FICE) accredited
* Core Ultrasound In Critical Care (CUSIC) trained
* Experience in ICU follow-up clinics
